Synthroid a usafa disqualifyer

My daughter, a high school sophomore, has dealt with mono for the past eight months - not really getting any better. We just found out that the virus has affected her thyroid. She will be starting a low dose of Synthroid tomorrow. She will probably have to be on it the rest of her life. Is this a disqualifyer for USAFA? She does not want to be a pilot but wants to go to med school.

You could either post that question here:

or send an email to Larry Mullen at this address and he will answer your question.

usafa 2011dad - Thanks for the info. Just for future reference for any other prospective zoomies - Synthroid does not disqualify for USAFA acceptance.

That sort of surprises me though I don’t doubt you. Latex allergy dq’d a friend (got a rash/hives, but not shock).

I know, it surprised me too. My husband is an airline pilot and if he were to begin a thyroid medication, he would be grounded for at least three months until he could prove that his levels were stable.

being DQ’d acceptance and being DQ’d pilot qualification are definately not the same thing. USAFA accepts many who are not and never will be PQ.
