I still haven’t heard anything either! I applied for dual in Newhouse for Photography and A&S for Women’s Studies.

I love Syracuse so much, but at this point, I just want a decision either way. My stress levels have shot up in the past week from all the waiting.

Thanks for reassuring me, House of London. I haven’t yet heard from Newhouse, either. It won’t be the end of the world if I’m not accepted, because I got into one of my top three choices the other day, but Syracuse is another of my top three and will be a serious contender should I be accepted.

yes gdool, Newhouse is an extremely prestigious school at Syracuse. It’s one of the top three along with Northwestern and another school that I am not aware of but if you do decide to attend then good for you. :)

I applied to Newhouse and still havent heard.
I am pretty much stalking this website to see any new changes in people recieving their acceptances/declines.

I got a 19 on my ACT which I am extremely worried about,

My mid year grade I got a C- in Integrated Math 4 and a C+ in Chemistry (Math and Science are not my thing and they were the first C’s I have ever recieved in my high school career). I however took AP English Lit and got an A- along with an A in Yearbook/Media communications.

I have a 3.7 GPA currently, ranked in the top 25% of my class, I have completed over 120 hours of community service, I have been in the National Honor Society since I was a sophomore, particpated in Varsity Cheer and Track throughout high school, I work at a local newspaper as a staff writer, and I attendend a Media and Journalism conference at Columbia over the summer. I also met with an admissons officer off campus in the fall .

What does anyone think about these statistics.
The ACT score really worries me. I am an awful test taker and I am fearful Syracuse might look at it and use it against me.

Does anyone have an opinion on this information that might give me a look into what kind of letter I might be recieving…

I keep going on the SU website to the webcams. Every time I see the Hall of Languages, I freak out. I want to be there so bad. Hopefully I’ll be finding out this Friday. I’m keeping a positive attitude and hoping for the best!

You can still get a scholarship. I asked the admissions office and the transfer chat. A lot of us who are still waiting, they’ve already made decisions based on Financial Aid and our applications. We just can’t see how much money we are getting. If you submitted all your papers on time you have the same chance as anybody else.

What was your prospective major at Newhouse that you got waitlisted into VPA? (film? communication and rhetorical studies?)

Comm&Rhet (VPA) is the time honored alternate offer for Newhouse… lots of people get alternate offers, keep their GPA up and get into Newhouse. Consider also the fact that the economic downturn is likely to continue and realize that some kids are just not going to be able to stay at Syracuse… they will be eager to hang on to their existing student body and may very well lower their internal transfer requirements.

As for VPA… they are doing a lot of interesting things in the downtown area with the art and design people, but frankly the condition of some of the facilities is just terrible. Crouse College (mostly musical programs are in there) is falling apart inside. They also just killed their surface pattern design program, pulled the rug right out from under that small group of majors.

I believe if you get into a school, they tell you. If you are waitlisted then you are waitlisted. D was waitlisted for 1st choice, but it didn’t say anything about choice 2 and 3. It just said it recognizes decisions for schools are due May 1st, but they won’t notify on the waitlist until May 15th. We have already accepted D’s second choice, and will hope we get into SU and will lose the deposit to the 2nd choice.

My prospective major at Newhouse was Broadcast Journalism.

I’m confused now on what I would be doing if I got into VPA because Im not artistically, or theatrically capable…Well I might be, but its just something I have never tried before.
They did say they would put me in communication and rhetorical studies but what would that even be like in comparison to my broadcast journalism major…?

In both Newhouse and VPA you have to basically take mostly liberal arts courses for your first two years, so you might not be missing out on a lot if you tried to get into broadcast journalism later. Syracuse has student-run TV and radio stations and I think anyone can participate so you could certainly gain broadcast experience as a C&R major.

Communication and rhetorical studies has nothing to do with art or theater. It’s sort of an odd major that they stuck into VPA years ago. (Retailing used to be a VPA major too… is now in the management school where it belongs…) Anyhow back when I was going to Syracuse this was very common for Newhouse applicants to get AO’d into C&R.
