SYRACUSE BFA ACTING not MT

so i have heard a bunch of stuff about how syracuse is a top notch program for MT and how it is “tied” as number two in the un-official ranking in MT programs with Umich. BUt my question is, does the same apply for there BFA acting program…if so does anyone know ne insider information about SU.

Hey-
I actually feel sometimes like the acting program is stronger than the MT program. The reason I think this is because the acting students just have to focus on acting and aren't pulled in a million different directions with voice, dance, Music Theory, etc. Plus, I feel like acting IS the main focus at Syracuse even within the MT program. If you can act you will be better off than others because there are plenty of people out there who are good singers and good dancers. They teach you how to be an individual at Syracuse so I really feel like the acting program is just as good.

Hello everyone. I was accepted into the BFA Acting program at SU and am entering next month in August for Fall 2013! I’m very excited. I know SU has great opportunities such as studying abroad in London and performing at the Shakespeare Globe theatre, and also the Tepper Semester in NYC, but other than those two, do SU performers get good exposure to professionals in the business?

Absolutely! The program is affiliated with Syracuse Stage so everything you do will be with professionals. Also, you’ll get great exposure to NYC professionals at Tepper and London pro’s at the Globe. And, there are master classes at the school and plenty of other visitors to the program by professionals in the business. Finally, there are several programs in LA to connect students to the TV and film business. Not sure how much better you can get!

This was found on their website and I thought it might be relevant.

"Each Wednesday at 4 p.m. during the academic year, the Drama Department comes together in a forum that presents a variety of events and guest lectures. Through “Wed Lab,” drama students informally learn about creating theater.

Lab programs may include presentations from directors and designers for both Syracuse Stage and Department of Drama, exploring the approach to current productions and providing the opportunity for students to understand and contextualize the productions they see in the complex.

Guests often include successful alumni as well as theater artists who are performing or working at Syracuse cultural venues, including Syracuse Stage. Such guests have included Vanessa Williams ’85, Taye Diggs ’93, Aaron Sorkin ’83, Chuck Cooper, Elizabeth Franz, and Jason Robert Brown (for a complete list, visit our section on guest artists/workshops). Alumni who share their stories also include recent graduates who survived entering the business as well as those who found a different path for their lives."

Definitely! My daughter just finished taking an Acting in Film course this summer in LA. She was exposed to some wonderful casting directors and learned a great deal regarding acting on camera. This is an extra course but it is 6 weeks in LA and an internship is available as well. Good luck at Opening!!
