Syracuse BFA Acting

S received email acceptance from Syracuse today.

congrats!!!

Hello everyone. I was accepted into the BFA Acting program at SU and am entering next month in August for Fall 2013! I’m very excited. I know SU has great opportunities such as studying abroad in London and performing at the Shakespeare Globe theatre, and also the Tepper Semester in NYC, but other than those two, do SU performers get good exposure to professionals in the business?

My daughter and I toured Syracuse a week ago. They have a nice partnership with Syracuse Stage. It’s a professional theater. The students get to be on the theater alongside professional actors and also have an opportunity to earn equity points in their productions. Our tour guide, a musical theater major, said that the professional actors are very kind and act as mentors to the students.

Can anyone share what to expect at the audition for Bfa Acting? My S will be auditioning at unifieds and this school is top on his list. Any info. would be appreciated. Also, if already attending. Is it everything you expected? Thank you.

I believe it’s an all-contemporary audition, so no Shakespeare. My son got one adjustment and a few questions. I don’t think there was anything out of the ordinary about it. (He got WL.)

My D performed two contemporary monologues, and was asked if she had a classical (which she did). She was accepted , but ultimately chose another program. I have to say I still have occasional regrets about that one- I really loved Ralph Zito!
