This is a forum for those who have been waitlisted
D was waitlisted until June 1st… no logical reasons as to why and now we have to decide what to do…
S waitlisted also, for CAS/Undecided. Also until June 1. He is staying on it, since he really loves the school, but we are visiting two other schools over spring break so he can decide where to commit by May 1. apparently this is a torture that will never stop
I applied to Syracuse’s Newhouse School of Public Communications and was waitlisted. It really makes no sense. My GPA, SAT, and ACT scores are above Syracuse’s average.
Average GPA: 3.60
My GPA: 3.76
Middle 50% ACT: 25-29
My ACT: 32
Middle 50% SAT (new): 1170-1370
My SAT: 1430
A friend of mine got in with much a much lower GPA and SAT score. Her essays weren’t that great either. The only thing I can think of is that she did an interview and she plays lacrosse (isn’t good enough to get a scholarship from a D1 or D2 school though). According to College Board’s stats for 'Cuse’s Fall 2016 admitted students profile, only 4.35% of those who accepted their spot on the waitlist were eventually accepted. I accepted my position on the wait list, but I’m not even going to bother hoping that I’ll get in, because with a 4.35% acceptance rate from the waitlist, we might as well have applied to an Ivy League school!
I think each college has different acceptance rates for waitlist… Anyone finds out the stats?
I checked College Data, and it says 659 students of 1578 who accepted WL spots got in last year. Am I reading that wrong?
@fourteenwords The collegedata shows different thing from collegeboard. Collegeboard shows only 80 students got off waitlist. This is so weird.
That is weird!! I wonder why they are so different?
I applied to school of visual art but I got waitlisted t.t
Daughter just heard that she is waitlisted for VPA. Better than a no but not sure if we will hear about and financial aid before June. I wonder how late in June they send out decisions.
the date they gave me was June 1 @Lac48220
Did they tell you in your letter it was June 1st?
How did you find out that day ?
Daughters letter said after June 1. Not on Or by June 1.
I wonder if other schools notify of waitlist so late ? Very hard to plan. My D also has option for summer session for PSU which starts June 28. Just wish Syracuse would notify earlier. Hard to plan.
My letter doesn’t have a date on it
What does that mean ?
My son’s letter says he’ll hear by June 1. He got the wait list notice on March 30. Applied to CAS. Maybe each dept/school at Syracuse is different?
I got waitlisted March 30th from CAS
No June 1st or any other date???
If you’re waitlisted do you qualify for any financial aid ?
Yes
My S was waitlisted to Whitman on March 30th with an after June 1st notification of final decision. He was pleasantly surprised today to be accepted into Whitman/Finance which was his first choice of study. If Syracuse is a #1 choice school for you, I highly recommend that you contact admissions and express your continued interest in the school. My S stats were above average for student profile and yet he was waitlisted which I’m convinced in part may have been due to a lack of engagement with the admissions department. A note to admissions may have made the difference for him today.
