Syracuse Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

I’m probably gonna still end up committing but even with the federal loan the total is still over 70k. Ridiculous tbh

yeah but that price tag was not new information.
doesn’t everyone look at the cost of a school before applying or do they think oh i’m sure to get enough merit and aid to bring down that price?

People know the cost, and apply hoping that they’ll be able to afford it- with aid. Very few people are able to pay almost 75k a year.

Totally agree. People look at cost but in the hopes of receiving some type of merit. Out of the 14 schools I applied to Syracuse is the only one that did not give me a merit but just a grant. It’s insanely pricey. My brother who is junior at Whitman at Syracuse receives merit in the form of over 28,000 plus grants. I was hoping for much than just a grant. I have over a 4.1 gpa and extra activities like he did. Very hard decision to make if I want that much in loans. Wishing all luck in your decisions.

Has everyone who has been accepted received an email from Fin Aid? We turned everything in back in November and there are no updates on his FA page. It just has the 2022 year showing?

I have. They finished my package. That’s how I find out I received the grant. If nothing is there but just the year they they have not completed your package. Good luck

Woo!! Got in yesterday to VPA. Not my first choice major so I probably won’t go. Haven’t heard yet about FA but I know it’s coming. Congrats everyone!

Where do you see the itemized breakdown of expenses - after FAFSA?

After you click on your year in financial aid there are tabs at the top with award summary, total cost, etc

do you think there going to release more decisions next friday?

Many of us didnt assume we’d get more merit to pay for it, we used the cost of attendance calculator from the website which had Syracuse need based grants bringing down the final cost and the website saying all over the place they believe students should be able to attend despite their economic means. This led us to believe that even tho it was costly, there were options even if you didnt gain a whole lot in merit.

Just know from experience from my brothers costs that Syracuse have a lot of additional fees that are not in the total cost on portal. Like there is a Whitman fee that will not show up until your bill in June or July. There are others as well. They are only couple of hundred here and there but adds up to about another 1,000. There is also health insurance that you can get waived if you have insurance but you still have to pay the health fee. Just a heads up on fees

same here, nothing from financial aid for me

this is what we see.

I have only my merit and have not seen anything about need, I think it’s coming later.

Itll be the biggest factor. She wants to eventually be a neurosurgeon and is currently leaning Ohio State as they are pricey but still cheaper than most others and we can move right across the river from where we are now to qualify for in state after her freshman yr would be over. She was really pumped about the discovery program and is still waiting on scholars program news from OSU as that will be a deciding factor. The neuroscience at OSU is also already a premed route too. Shes very fortunate (also worked her butt off) for the problem she has now as deciding where to go among with her acceptances.

Have all decisions come out?

No there are many still out. I think they posted something yesterday about they would continue to be released.
