Test optional probably didnât help me with some of the more competitive schools. I was fortunate to get a lot of acceptances before all the more competitive school results started rolling in. If it had been the opposite I would have been severely stressed & bummed out!! Any rejection is still disappointing, even if you knew a school was a long shot. I thought I had a decent chance at Syracuse (Villanova, Holy Cross), but knew there was stiff competition & unpredictable especially this year. I applied to WAY too many schools, but I guess it was a good mix/balance, and i have some great options. I did think I had better odds at Syracuse, especially being a bigger school.
Just in case these stats help anyone in the futureâŠwho knows what that might bring (in the college admissions world).
D appled for film VPA. Did not get in there but was waitlisted from there TO Newhouse. Yeah very very bummed. That which doesnât break usâŠ. We are heading to Ithaca College (yay!) and Rutgers Mason Gross (yay!) and this will be in the past. I wish you and your daughter and everyone else here well.
Iâve seen acceptances with far less impressive stats. Know rhyme or reason to this madness ugh My heart is really hurting for our D who again has yet to receive an email. I wish you all well and your kids end up in the best place for them.
My son was accepted
Congrats.
The fact that Syracuse really waited for the last 2 rounds of decisions to send out denials and waitlists, is a significantly cruel thing to do. It is a degrading and humiliating thing to do. To leave all of the students hanging on like fools to the bitter end, stringing us along, and then basically calling out the fact that anyone in these final groups didnât get accepted, meanwhile they HAD to have had our decisions made all along. There is no possible way that there could be that big a coincidence that all of the denials and waitlists would have just happened to have been reviewed last. Especially with all the differences in our applications such as when we applied, what major / school we applied to, grades, testing options, demographics, etc. thrown into the mix. I personally donât think it is ethical to sit on a huge pile of applications that they know they have rejected or waitlisted, and wait until all of the acceptances have been received before sending them out. Sending them out either on or this close to April 1st is actually flat out wrong. There is zero good reason to not give everyone there answer all at once if you have them, which i will say again- they very clearly did have them since they sent them out like this. They donât even deserve any of the students that applied to their school. We all deserve better.
Hang in there. My D applied to 10 film programs and got into 2. This one was a big letdown. Rough night hereâŠ. Itâs hard.
Maybe she will receive good newsâŠanything is possible.
Hey did anyone else get this: âAlthough we cannot offer you admission for fall 2022, we are pleased to offer you the opportunity to enroll at Wells College and work towards a transfer to Syracuse University in the future.â it also says âThis pathway program enables select students like you to pursue a Syracuse University degree after attending Wells College for one year. If you meet the below criteria after completing your first year at Wells College you will be guaranteed admission to Syracuse Universityâs College of Arts & Sciences.â is this a common thing and is it better or worse than a waitlist?
I guess her FA is not finalized yet. Hope you get it worked out. That is very annoying
.
Rejected!
Same. Already declined the waitlist spot.
Luckily Syracuse was not her first choice.
To everyone who said my daughter ruined her chances by sending the email:
Based on the decisions given out in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd wave, Syracuse already had the minds made up about her before the email was even written.
Iâm even more proud of her for voicing her concerns considering the fact that many students that felt the same way (but didnât speak up because they were worried about the status of their application) ended up getting waitlisted as well.
I am so sorry to hear that. I was following your journey on this thread and had my fingers crossed for you and your daughter.
Same, I am also so sorry. This has been a very challenging time, we are all ready to make a decision and move on.
Adding to it were the victory videos they solicited from admits. Maybe that doesnât bother others, but when the process is dragged out and you have a teenager waiting to hear, watching them⊠doesnât sit right.
Im so sorry!!!
Does anyone happen to know the acceptance rate into the film major in VPA? I heard it is lower than for other majors, but I canât find any information on that.
Nooo, that actually made me upset⊠I related to you and your daughterâs story, and was pulling for her every step of the way. I know many people are just looking at this as âpart of the process we should deal withâ but I really do think that what this school did to our psyches should be called out. Holding waitlists and rejections until the very last day possible and lying about it by saying âitâs random wavesâ? It makes me sick to my stomach.
