After much consideration I've decided to apply early action to Syracuse. However, I notice that there is only an app deadline for EA on the website, no audition deadline. Is this true?

I don’t know that they have EA (or ED for that matter) available for BFA students. My D applied (and was accepted) but we did RD on all applications b/c there wasn’t a program she was SO sure about that it would eliminate all others. Check with the college of visual and performing arts (VPA) they have their own website. Or you may want to call them, we did a couple of times during D’s process, and they were super helpful

I think Syracuse has ED not EA. Not sure how It works for Drama School. There is a November audition. Call this week to confirm. :)

Thanks @KatMT! I will certainly call. I’m not really sure what the difference between ED and EA is, my college advisor at school seems to use them interchangeably. I suppose I’ll have to look that up. Thanks again!

ED is binding. If admitted you have to choose that school. You may only do one ED school app. EA you can do as many as you like and they are not binding.

Exactly. There aren’t too many BFA programs that offer an EA (Baldwin Wallace does) several of my D’s offered ED, but a trick is, you don’t always get financial aide info at same time. D wanted to do it for NYU (which is where she will be going in the fall) but I didn’t feel we could commit until we saw other school’s aide numbers. Turns out I could have save myself 4 months of stress! Ah well :)

Also- fair warning, applying for BFAs is NOT like applying for other programs, and guidance counselors may not be familiar with the differences!

Chapman BFA has a EA option

Thanks so much everyone! I will definitely be careful when discussing my plans with my college advisor, though I do attend an arts school where a large percentage of graduating seniors do go on to BFA programs. Though I’m not sure how much she had to do with that. ;)
