I agree winterfell… we should assume the best unless we know otherwise. I’m perplexed why they don’t release decisions already made - that’s what’s frustrating to me - but I’m guessing it is to give all ED1 applicants the same consideration (including those who couldn’t apply on time due to Common App issues), or perhaps as you say to avoid some sort of deluge effect on the system. It is what is is, now we just pray and hope for the best. The cost of RD applications wasn’t a factor for us because we had already made those applications before deciding to apply ED to Syracuse. I do see your point, soze, because you had to make new applications and spend money you otherwise might not have.

Anyone know if their admissions office is open now? Might be wise to give us a call

Sorry, I meant give them a call

Well, my son called today and was told that his application was still “under review.”
Which means they are deciding on his acceptance after receiving the ED II applications which is completely unfair given that he applied in early November.

It’s very obvious that they are holding some ED I applications to see what they got for ED II applicants.

Otherwise, there is no reason to hold applications that have already been decided. Other schools release thousands of RD decisions on the same day and have no issue with the volume. They apparently are doing some sort of quasi-rolling-admissions for ED applications which means they grossly misrepresented the process.

The cost of the RD applications is one thing, but the really tragic thing is that this delay cost him the opportunity to apply ED II to another school.

Then if they’re holding ED I applications, that’s strange seeing how as my file has been “complete” since around Dec. 10. I’ll give them a call tomorrow. And I applied to Purdue early action (Nov. 8) and haven’t gotten my decision yet, though many people have gotten them starting Dec. 13, so obviously it’s not just Syracuse, otherwise a lot of schools must be doing a “quasi-rolling-admissions,” which I highly doubt. But I tend to be an optimistic person :)

The next wave is supposed to happen sometime around the 6th, straight from my AC’s mouth–if they’re holding those ED I applications, seems pretty lofty for them to be sending out ED II decisions around the 6th after having gotten them for a few days.

If your son doesn’t get into whatever program he applied for at Syracuse (I applied for Newhouse), they can email or call their ED II choice and ask to have their RD moved to ED II, since most schools’ dates are the same. I emailed my AC at my second choice school if I could do that (and explained the circumstances), and she said that was completely okay and that many schools have been struggling to send decisions out this year. Good luck to your son.

I’m a bit stumped with my ED application too. I still haven’t recieved a response letter but I did get an email from the financial aid office saying I recieved a scholarship, needless to say i’m a bit confused.

try checking your spam mail, your acceptance letter could be in there! The same thing had happened to me.

@alkayy

when did you receive notification from the financial aid office?

@xSyracuse2018 i checked but it isn’t in there

@winterfell123
I got it on late friday…and i emailed them but haven’t gotten a reply cause fo the weekend

If you try to go on Myslice and click on the admission acceptance form…The letter itself won’t be there but if you were accepted then it lets you fill out the form and put a down payment for housing and what not…idk if that helps but I really hope you get in!

I checked that too but it still says its unavailable but my financial aid section has been updated with the aid they emailed me about and other information so yeah…

Apparently some more decisions are going out tomorrow…good luck, everyone! Hoping for the best.

Good luck to you all It is truly unfair.

Welp, this stinks but I just got word I didn’t get in. As in not even to CAS. I’m not sure why, since my GPA was a 3.7 and my SAT was a 2390 with a boatload of internships and extracurriculars and one of the top 10 schools in the nation, and I’m completely gutted. Congrats to those who did make it, maybe I’ll transfer in later.

Winterfell:
Have your GC call them and get some clarity on this. Your stats put you in the top of applicants to Syracuse (and most other places as well) .

Was there something missing in your coursework? (Like only two years of English or something like that).

I just peeked in to the thread. As a (much) older SU alum I really enjoy reading about the excitement of new and future Orangemen finding out their news! Having said that, and despite having great sentiment and pride for my alma mater, I would be FURIOUS if they did something like this had any of my kids been interested in applying to SU. Was it clear from the onset that the early notifications would trickle on this long? I’m thinking not…because why wouldn’t anyone question a deadline that extended beyond the possibilty of applying elsewhere ED2? And if the possibility was not made clear, why should I/you/anyone be held to a ED “contract” that has been violated/reinterpreted by the school themselves? Again, loved my experience in S’cuse but fair is fair. Since my time, the college app process has become exponentially more complicated and competitive under the best circumstances…add on what seems to be haphazard, inconsistent and poorly planned notifications and schedules and that’s just bad form. Just my .02. Despite all that…Go Orange…When everything shakes out, you will have an AMAZING 4 years!!!

JoBenny:
Thanks, if you want to help, send a nice email to the Dean of Admissions.

Alumni feedback matters a lot.

Soze: Definitely nothing missing, we double-checked. We sent in first quarter grades (all A’s except for one B+) as well. I’m not really sure what happened, but I will have my GC call. I did apply to some other journalism schools, so all is not lost for me yet.

After all the stress they put us through with the mess of ED notifications, I’m almost kind of dull to the rejection at this point.

Soze: The only thing I could think of is not having 4 years of Social Studies/History (we don’t offer history for freshmen at my school, since it’s a science&tech school so we take a design tech course instead). But we still have to “get” the fourth credit to graduate so I took it online during the summer (shows up on my transcript) and I took AP Euro…

Wait did you apply to Newhouse (Journalism) or Arts and Sciences?
