Mysticalkites: I applied for a dual program between Newhouse and CAS, with Arts & Sciences as my second choice. My ec’s are all really heavy in either international relations or journalism.

That’s so weird you didn’t get in. You have all the credentials to at least get into Arts and Sciences if not Newhouse. I would call, or have your GC call. Something must have went wrong if you were not even deferred.

Did you already visit SU before applying ED?

Very weird.
Checking Naviance for my Son’s HS for example, EVERYBODY who applied in the past seven years with at least a 3.0 and a 1900 has gotten in and Winterfell is light-years above that.

Soze and Mysticalkites: Yeah, I’m having my GC call tomorrow. My high school is really competitive (top 10 in the US) so the GPA of people who got into Syracuse was a 3.8, and I’m below that, but the avg SAT was around a 2100 which mine is higher than. I also thought I had enough journalism credentials and extracurriculars (I worked at a major national newspaper over the summer and had my boss write an additional recommendation). I’m at a loss, but I’ll live.

winterfell: Your SAT is not mearly “above” that, it’s into the “magic territory.”
Not every SAT point is created equal. The 200 points between a 1900 and a 2100 are not nearly as much of a game changer as the the 200 points between a 2100 and an 2300, plus you’ve even left 2300 in your rear-view-mirror.

Something has to be awry, this just flat out does not make sense.

Soze: My guidance counselor called them this morning and they said they couldn’t discuss my decision. But I have been accepted to UMich and Elon already, so while this sucks, I’m not too upset. I think it might have had to do with my GPA–I didn’t have straight A’s or nearly straight A’s at all, mostly an A-B student and perhaps the Newhouse competition was really high this year.

Does anyone know when I should hear back from BANDIER ED 2?

@JoBenny, Syracuse alum here. I, too, am outraged by the ED fiasco that I have been reading about in this thread. I will be sending a naughty note to the Dean of Admissions and to the interim Chancellor to let them know that this is unacceptable.

My son found out around 3:40 PM today that he was accepted into the Systems and Information Science program (dual program in Engineering/CS and the iSchool). Yayyyyy!!!

Can anyone tell me when ED-2 decisions are supposed to be released?

I emailed, and they said we should get them by Feb 1st. I applied to BANDIER though, so I think I should be getting notified later…

Thanks, Livvyyy123. I applied to Engineering and I’m really anxious to hear back. It will be a long month! Good luck to you.

son just heard via email that he didn’t get accepted…surprising…seriously bummed and our college counselor very confused by Syracuse’s recent decisions…onward and upward good luck to all

I got in CAS around 5 days ago , I really didnt think i would with my stats. ( 3.487 weighted gpa and 1640 SAT)

Wow…mnrmom…I’m really sorry to hear that. Do you mind sharing your sons stats so others can get an idea of their chance, or lack there of, for getting in?

Hey everyone, I know that this is an early decision thread but I did not apply ED I just applied regular decision and wanted to ask some question. Does anyone know how many people have been accepted into Newhouse so far? I applied regular decision to Newhouse and I’m hoping that there is still a chance for me to get in. Here our my stats.
