Syracuse Engineering

My d is beginning her college search and recently read about Syracuse. We would like to hear from any students, parents or alums on the positives for attending Syracuse overall and for engineering in particular. We live in the Midwest so it's not been heavily attended by recent graduates of our high school.

I’m an '84 grad from LC Smith - major Computer Engineering. Job offers right from graduation, and was prepared for the real world in engineering. SU has a great diversity of colleges that was and is a pretty good thing for students. They have a lot of school pride too - Go Orange! My son is an iSchool senior, and has taken computer science courses without trouble crossing school boundaries. He has a CS roommate who got a $100K/yr job offer from Microsoft (he accepted) with his BSCS from LC Smith. I’m a hiring manager for an engineering firm in Mass, and we recruit from SU as well.

Weather in Syracuse is cold and cloudy. Your d will likely not be too phased with the cold, but read up on the climate in case gray skies is too much of a downer.

Good luck with your search. Exciting times!
