Syracuse Financial Aid Appeal

Hi guys, I was just accepted to Falk College a few weeks ago, but my financial aid award letter came in on Friday. I received $10,000 in merit with the Dean’s Scholarship, $21,900 in aid money, $4,000 in work-study, and the typical $5,500 in loans. Although I am blessed to have received a fairly generous offer of aid, it is not enough. The COA at Syracuse, not taking into account indirect costs, is approximately $67,000 as many of you know. I have an EFC of $14K and the current cost would sit at $25,000 or so. To be affordable, I need this number to be closer to 15 grand than 25. If my stats can possibly influence the decision on an appeal, they are: 1440 SAT, 3.8 uwGPA, and 4.2 wGPA. I know I just blurted out a ton of numbers, but how likely is an appeal process at SU successful? If likely, how much aid would you guess they might add in addition. NYU gave me $27,900 in aid money and BU gave me $34,700…wondering if Syracuse can price match if that is even a thing?

Have you filed a financial appeal? Most schools, you can negotiate and show what other schools have offered.

If NYU and BU also have similar tuition/cost of attendance, SU may award you some more aid. Not sure if the NYU and BU $$ you quoted above is just ‘gift aid’ or the whole aid package including loans/workstudy. We requested more aid for my D last year and SU awarded her a small additional grant. You won’t know unless you ask, good luck!

I am a international student with high stats who is thinking about applying ED to Tulane but I am afraid of the financial aid.
I can only pay 1000$ per year so is there any chance for me to be accepted with almost a full-ride scholarship (full tuition, fees, room, and board)?
@mommabear67

I am curious as to what happened with your Financial Aid appeal to Syracuse. Any update?

following because this is one of my top schools and I have an EFC of $3000
