Getting paid to get drunk on national news: Priceless

I've said it over and over, Newhouse gives it grads chances that they won't get anywhere else.

Case and point?

NBC tonight, a Syracuse University graduate (working for MSNBC) is going to get drunk live on TV tonight on MSNBC's Scarborough Country. The plan is to raise his BAC to a .12 and see if he spouts off insults like Mel Gibson did when he got his DUI. The kid is Jewish, so I assume he won't be laying down too many anti-semetic insults, but it should be interesting.

Just wanted to let you all know. Show starts at 9:00 pm.

For all hopeful Communications majors out there; be optimistic. One day you could be taking shots of hard alcohol on TV, and be getting paid for it! Is there a better job on earth than this?

.12 is not nearly intoxicated enough to start rattling enough insults mindlessly. until a few months ago, .10 was legal driving limit here (LA). many people can reach .12 only having consumed four drinks or less in an hour's time period.

The fact that he is an alcoholic doesn't have any bearing on what he did. His BAC was .12 regardless of whether he is an alcoholic or a virgin drinker, and that is what supposedly caused him to act that way.

(Which, imo, is bull*****. Alcohol doesn't give you ideas or put words in your mouth. It just lowers your inhibitors so you actually say or do what you were thinking.)

who's blaming what he did on the fact that he's an alcoholic?? i said he had problems...i meant in general. the man's has always seemed a little crazy to me. the same w/ tom cruise. not all there. seriously, how can someone that laughs like tom be completely sane?

Ah, ok. I guess I misunderstood what you said. I agree--Mel is kinda crazy in the head.

Well alcohol does make you do things you don't want to do sometimes. That's how date rape occurs.

A lot of cases like that happen when someone who is drunk and not thinking straight agrees to something and then when sober realizes it wasn't a good idea. I'd have to say that a lot of date rape cases that involve alcohol also invovle roofies that were slipped into the victim's drink.

I've been drunk to the point of barely being able to stand up-- my BAC was definitely over .12--and while I talked a lot, I was only voicing things I have been thinking. Alcohol is not a hallucinogen and it doesn't create thoughts or feelings, it just enables a person to act more freely on them.
