My son wants to apply ED to Syracuse for Fall 2023 acceptance. My concern is merit potential. How many kids that have applied ED to Syracuse received merit? When we zoomed with admissions and asked, they just said that merit consideration is same for both ED & RD
My son applied RD, 3.7 UWGPA, 30 act, 1390 sat, they awarded him $10,000 a year, I believe. I was surprised he got anything, and don’t know why he applied because it’s not affordable.
Syracuse isn’t known for giving great FA, so I can’t give a differing opinion to what the AO said about merit being the same whether applying ED and RD.
Is Syracuse affordable without merit aid? Run their NPC here: Net Price Calculator
If you need merit to attend Syracuse, applying ED probably isn’t the best strategy. Even though one can break the ED agreement if the FA package isn’t affordable, the consequence of that is you give up the ability to apply elsewhere ED that could be affordable without merit and/or includes merit estimates in their NPC.
My daughter applied ED in 2019 for Cuse Newhouse/Whitman double major and was accepted with a merit scholarship of 25k per year for 4 years. She scored 31 ACT and had a 3.9 GPA. It seems that her referral letters and the essay played an important role. Also she visited the school for a personal interview, return there a second time and luckily, the lady that interviewed her was presenting SU for our Region, so she showed a very strong interest multiple times.
Thanks! This is great feedback. Did you report rank? He falls right at top 15%. Trying to decide if he should report or not.
Hi there, I am a freshman at Syracuse right now, and I applied ED to Syracuse. At my time of applying, my weighted GPA was 4.55 and I was ranked 15/345. I had a decent amount of extra curriculars. I got the Deans Scholarship, which is 10K a year. I would highly recommend showing demonstrated interest. Go on tours, attend virtual meetings, email your college, and go to the events. This school cares a lot about students who want to be here, so show them you really are interested, and that may give you a upper hand. I remember using these chats last year nervously waiting to hear back, so I hope that this can help.
DD applied last year RD, SAT 1510, 3.91 UW, several AP submitted w/o scores, HS not ranking, heavy courseload: Scholarship 15K/yr + extra 5K/yr success award.
Did they give your merit info when you got accepted or did that come later? Thanks!
it came together with the letter of acceptance.
