my daughter is torn between Syracuse (dual placement in Newhouse program and business school) andUniversity of Miami school of communication. I know, two very different schools, right? Part of her apprehension for Syracuse is the weather. (which she obviously knew about when she applied), She fears she’ll love the program but be miserable outside of the classroom. With University of Miami, its the opposite – she doesn’t know if the broadcast journalism program at UM is strong enough to eventual employers (but she knows she’ll be happy outside the classroom with the climate and city). And in case she doesn’t pursue journalism as her career, she wants to make sure either school has a strong business program. Does anyone have experience with both of these school and programs and provide advice? I’d greatly appreciate it!
@nittany2017…Your daughter has two great choices. My daughter is a junior in Whitman and Newhouse and loves Cuse! DD was always a beach baby, so my wife and I were a bit surprised she wanted a cold climate. DD applied ED to Cuse but had the Miami application ready to go if ED did not work out.
DD will be working her second internship in New York City this summer. If your daughter wants NYC, Cuse has a strong presence. My daughter needs 157 credits to graduate. This was very doable as she had AP and CLEP credits and took a number of summer classes. Cuse is good with transfer credit from other schools. DD picked up a third major with no more credits being needed. She will graduate in 4 years and likely will be part time as a senior. It helps to be strong quantitatively if one is a dual. The cold weather has not been an issue as my daughter calls Cuse a “winter wonderland”. There is a lot to do on campus. I guess it helps to be young too.
Good luck to you and your daughter.
