I am currently a senior in highschool and have to make a difficult decision on what colleges to pick.
(planning to do mechanical engineering)
So far I am admitted to Stonybrook, Ubuffalo, NYUpoly, Syracuse, RIT, and CCNY.
here's the good things I've heard about each college
Stony Brook- cheap tuition, close to the city, good for engineering
UBuffalo- cheap tuition, big campus, good for engineering
NYU Poly- expensive tuition, well known for engineering, good faculty
Syracuse- expensive tuition, a lot of school spirit, nice campus
RIT- expensive tuition, nice campus, well known for technical majors
CCNY- cheap!!! good for the money, engineering school

As you can see, I really don't know too much about the engineering major in these schools.
what order would you rate the schools for engineering?

I’m having the same problem except i’m going for Chemical engineering! LOL. if you choose NYU poly atleast you’re getting an NYU degree. It has been really good these days since it got merged with NYU.

It all comes down to whichever fits you better.

My engineering son, now graduating with degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering this May had applied/accepted to some of the same schools as you.

UB, Syracuse, RIT, visited all. Stony Brook, too close to us, did not apply, and did not apply to the others you listed.

His impressions upon visiting:
RIT- OK, disappointed. Also told it would likely take 5 years to graduate (hence higher cost as well for fifth year. Interviewed and told they loved him and he’d get a great merit award, schools would fight over him, etc… … $7K/yr, not great.
Syracuse- Liked it a lot. Also $7K merit/yr and told what an amazing candidate, would get lots of merit.
Buffalo- Liked a lot. Loved what he saw going on in the labs. 1/2 tuition merit award.

Accepted to 15 of 15 schools. No loans needed at any. decided on UB. Great school at great cost. Great reputation of engineering depts. Read my other posts on UB thread for more info. Graduating in 4 years with these two engineering degrees, though he did go in with AP credits and took online gen eds over first summer. Paid research on campus and two summer internships. 3 job offers upon graduation.

For son, he was able to visit schools and then decide. Fit is important as well as visiting the engineering depts. if you can do that.

I was also thinking about choosing b/t buffalo or syracuse.
tuition for cuse is 55k+ but i have 42k covered
while tuition for buffalo is 20k with 12k covered
I feel like if I don’t take cuse, I am losing money in a way…
i know that’s a bad way to think, what are your thoughts
