I have been accepted to syracuse university and elon University... The problem is I don't know which school to choose. They are very different and both have a lot of things that I like about the school. I am an American but I live in England so it makes it hard to go visit the schools. I have to make my decision soon and don't know where to start.

I'm looking for an all around university experience: school spirit, athletics, night life, fun, good education etc.
syracuse looks like an amazing school but the weather throws me off a little, I live in England so cold isn't too appealing. Elon however is a small school so I don't know how much is going on there and if it will offer a great university experience. Also elon doesn't have as big of sports as syracuse.

I need help!!!!! Any advice on how to chose? Where to start?

My daughter has been faced with a similar decision. Syracuse or a smaller school - one of her choices, is a small LAC similar (I think!) to Elon. We were fortunately able to visit all schools more than once.

We spent two days last week at Syracuse and she really loved it. As she has other opportunities, we visited another school she has been accepted to on Saturday and the last on Sunday. Let’s just say, I dragged her to the other two schools kicking and screaming.

As a parent, I was initially hoping she would choose one of the more “prestigious” schools - but changed my mind after last weekend. Syracuse has an energy to it that is evident (even in the pouring rain) and is just not present at her other choices. So many students approached us and gave us insight and advice. The students at Syracuse are simply nice and happy. We spoke to professors and students in her intended major (chemical engineering) and were very impressed with their capabilities and enthusiasm for their studies.

She has decided to accept the invitation to the Honor’s program which I think will be a great experience and will add to her academic and social experience.

If you’re looking for the stereotypical “college experience” along with great academics. Syracuse will not disappoint you. Will you get the personal attention that you would get at a smaller school? I think it is available but you will have to possibly work a little harder. It will not fall into your lap. This is my third child to go through college. College is what you make of it! My oldest daughter went to a large school and definitely forged personal relationships with professors and found a small college experience within a larger school.

It’s hard for you as you can’t visit. It is such a personal decision. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
