Hey everyone,

I've been accepted by Syracuse and Pratt for their undergraduate architecture program. They both have expensive tuition, so are their architecture programs worth that money?

Hey everyone,

I've been accepted by Syracuse and Pratt for their undergraduate architecture program. They both have expensive tuition, so are their architecture programs worth that money?

I had to make the same exact decision. I went with Pratt and do not regret it at all. The location and approach to architecture is really conceptual (be warned if you expect to make houses the first year) and the location of the program (Brooklyn) makes it really accessible to one of the most fantastic architectural cities of the world.
On the other hand Syracuse is ranked second… however Pratt is slowly creeping up. We were ranked 9th this year on DI.

thanks for the reply trakwrecka! What made you choose Pratt over Syracuse? Are their approaches to architecture really different?

Syracuse is not as conceptual as Pratt. Not only that but the faculty that teaches here is mostly from Columbia therefore making the general atmosphere of the school a little digital oriented. That isn’t to say you can’t pick professors that stress the more traditional methods of representation, but you’re going to be surrounded with a lot of innovative digital work as well.

If you ever come to Pratt and need a tour shoot me a PM.

@trakwrecka - Is Pratt a flexible school in terms of financial aid?

Not at all if you’re an international. Though I heard if you do well the first year they give you a hefty scholarship.

@trakwrecka Thanks for the help!

@domokakeh: So did you decide where to go yet? I just wondering. I got accepted at Syracuse too, haha.

I am still not sure, 'cause most of Pratt’s professors are visiting professors while Syracuse’s seem to be more stable…but there isn’t much information about the employment of syracuse architecture graduates…what about you?

@domokakeh: I’ve decided to go to Syracuse As for the employment info, you can find it here: http://cstl.syr.edu/arc/Report_09/Arc_Alumni_Survey_Report09_final.pdf
And check out their student work too, they’re pretty good

@Kendezi: Thanks for the links! =)

@trakwrecka: I have one more quick question-Does Pratt’s architecture program have a strong focus on drawing as well?

@domokakeh: Yeah sure, just holla at me when you made up your mind where to go for college :)
