Syracuse, Penn State, Stevens?

The LinkedIn idea is cool.

I have a comment that is too late for the 2019 kiddos but may help the junior families. Be creative with your research methosd. Years ago I was able to make a connection with a Harvey Mudd student (through a listing I noticed of prior scholarship winners at my big company). That kind hearted student spent 20 minutes with us when we were on the campus for the tour, and the insights were helpful for that school and engineering studies in general.

Remember when you hear it straight from the horse’s mouth that you have a limited sample size. Getting a pessimist from one and an optimist from another can give an inaccurate picture. Some will focus on affirming their own choices while others might focus on the negatives that one can only learn after making their decision and attending. What is true is that very few have comparative knowledge of institutions. Maybe the best data set is a multi-sib family with kids at different schools. Take it all with a grain of salt though, just as you should do with anything you read on CC (especially from me ).

YES - Good point about limited sample size. But you can still learn some useful things.

I would like to thank you all for your help, it has been extremely helpful these last few days. I wish I saw the @spqr70nj post about LinkedIn earlier because that is a great idea that I definitely could’ve used. However, I would like to inform everyone that I have decided to choose to attend Syracuse University. After touring Stevens on Friday, I knew Syracuse was the best choice for me, as I began to saw how uncomfortable a hyper-focused tech school like Stevens made me. I felt that Syracuse was able to offer a combination of both the larger public schools and the smaller, as Syracuse has ample resources for me at my disposal, and the engineering program is small enough that I can have great relationships with all of my classmates and professors. I wish all the best of luck on their college searches.

Congratulations @Esilfies ! You will probably be in some of the same first year engineering classes with my son - he’s pursuing aerospace.

Congratulations!

Hmm…it’s very common to have the ME and AE programs all within the same department, within the college of engineering. It’s done for administrative reasons, and really shouldn’t be a consideration or worry.

@spqr70nj Is your son staying in the Engineering Learning Community? I’m starting to look for roommates now

@Esilfies Yes, he submitted his housing application a few weeks ago and specified the engineering LC in Shaw Hall. I’ll send you a DM with his name. He recently signed on to the Syracuse University Class of 2023 (Official) admitted students’ Facebook page.
