I was accepted with a 1420 SAT, 4.0 GPA, and top 10% of class. I got into the college of arts and sciences with the annual Archbold-Day Scholarship of $25,000.
Good luck to everyone!
P.S. remember that one school does not define how you are as a person or a student.
I just went through last year’s thread for the class of 2021, and apparently the pattern went like this:
Week of 3/17- acceptances
Week of 3/23- rejections (possibly some acceptances? no one posted about them though)
Week of 3/31- waitlists and acceptances
And then beginning to mid April was acceptances off the waitlist, so we shouldn’t be discouraged if we’re waitlisted because it doesn’t necessarily mean a probable rejection.
I’m assuming this friday is gonna be a wave of rejections. People from last year’s thread were saying that the pattern was similar in 2016, and that the next wave of acceptances was the whole last week of march, not just that friday.
Okay my D has a tough decision - She has been accepted to Communications major at Northeastern via the NU.In program and also to the Newhouse school at Syracuse - also top rated for communications. Both are full pay at $71-72K so cost is not a deciding factor. She really likes both schools as pros/cons seem to balance each other out.
Any advice for my D between these two great colleges?
I’m just really curious as to how a person I know got into Syracuse with a 1100 SAT and 3.4 ish GPA. I think they applied for biology… but I’m not exactly sure. All I do know is that I didn’t get any emails yet and I’m pretty disappointed.
Son accepted to the iSchool on Friday – No Merit. Also accepted to Penn State IST – Just back from Accepted Student visit at PSU. Gonna be tough as both iSchools are impressive. IST has mandatory internships (multiple) – SU has study abroad requirement. We are double legacy Syracuse grads.
Penn State may carry the day based on tuition ($46K) vs. SU ($71K). Congrats to all SU accepted students – Great school and you will enjoy.
@stepl100 I don’t know anything about Northeastern, but I have a friend who goes to Newhouse and it sounds like the opportunities you’re offered there are really impressive. The Daily Orange, their student publication, is the #1 college newspaper in the country, so to have that on your resume in college really helps in getting hired after graduating. Also their alumni network is known for being extremely strong and apparently new students are introduced to/put into contact with alumni right at the beginning of the year, and a lot of people get hired at good positions just because they know alumni. My friend knows two people who got hired at The Washington Post within one year of graduating. Again, I don’t know anything about Northeastern because I didn’t apply or look into it, but these are the things that made me interested in Syracuse as I’m a budding journalist myself and I wanna be hired at a national newspaper as soon as possible after graduating
I applied to Newhouse as my first choice, didn’t get in there, but got into Business school which was my 2nd choice. 3.6 GPA and 1210 SAT. Tons of leadership and extracurriculars
Does anyone know how easy it is to negotiate more aid with Syracuse. My son was admitted to another very comparable school but it’s going to cost close to $10000 more to go to Syracuse. I’m wondering it is worth trying to get more money from Syracuse or if he should just go with the less expensive comparable school.
I spoke to fin aid and admissions this morning @dixie200 unfortunately Syracuse does NOT negotiate merit to compete with scholarships granted from other schools. DS was thrilled with acceptance but with Syracuse at 71k DS has other acceptances from same caliber and better schools with significant merit money. Time to break up with Syracuse.
@mytwobuoys Thank you for saving me time. I was going to call them as well. Sigh… I guess they feel they don’t need to compete with other schools as their reputation stands for itself. Its a hard pill to swallow. Especially when other schools are offering aid … and aren’t located in the frozen tundra! LOL
I’m sure they don’t feel that they need to compete unless you’re bringing something to the party that no one else can. Otherwise you’re just one of many qualified applicants.
I called Syracuse too and they do not entertain appeals to Merit aid. My daughter got a nice scholarship but not nearly enough. Her other top choice is exactly half the cost once you apply her merit aid to both schools.
