@XCcoasterfreak, which wave were you in I last year?

I was in the first wave for ED, but that is irrelevant. Like I said, you can get either accepted, rejected, or waitlisted in a wave. Just relax.

Does financial aid reflect what wave you’re in? Some of my documents were turned in late, maybe that’s why some people are pushed back in comparison to others.

Financial aid absolutely does not reflect which wave you are in.

Okay, I got a call from Syracuse today but I missed it because I was attending my grandmothers funeral. When I tried to call back later today I was connected to a woman named Wendy who is the assistant for the transfer admissions officer. She was able to answer all of my questions and told me that they have received my mid-term grade reports. About 20 min later I got an email from a current student there telling me to turn in the same report I was told they already have… This is driving me crazy hahaha

^ the student was acting on behalf of the university, she did not email me on her own.

Accepted to the Bandier program!! 1 of 25 people accepted. I’m ecstatic about that…

However, as of right now, it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to attend because even with financial aid it will cost me around $48,000 a year, which is a ridiculous amount of money. I’m extremely upset. Syracuse is my absolute dream school and I wanted to a part of the Bandier program so badly. I am near the top of Syracuse’s applicant pool and I didn’t get any scholarships. Does anyone know if scholarship information comes at a different time/manner? Please let me know so I can maybe hold out hope!! I’m desperate.

Also, does anyone know anything about the honors college? Do you have to apply and if so how do you do so?

You know these forums are not known for their modesty

lol ^^ honestly

good to know thanx…that was a concern but as time drags on it is getting longer in the tooth .I am begining to seriously lose intersest despite all the posts on waves. 1 more week and then its on to second choice ha ha .the only thing keeping us motivated is XCcoasterfreak post at 9:03 pm about scholarships

@OrangeWhite22, et al… - I hate to say it but - patience is a virtue. I would really like to see any of those who have negative things to say about the waves of response SU engages, to be sitting in the seat of an admissions counselor reviewing approximately 20,000 applications. Purging results on a daily basis is counter productive in the way of performing the same task over and over versus compilation to release results in a few mass waves.

SU does a damn good job in my opinion even with the fact that my D was waitlisted last year during the last wave. That may have been more attributed to the fact that she singly applied as an in-state student for the School of Architecture which was greatly competitive and seats were few for that Major.

As far as the scholarships are concerned, my D received $40,000 in Federal, State and SU institutional scholarships, Merit Aid, NY TAP and grants in addition to her being eligible for her student loans but not being eligible for the work study program (N/A to waitlisted students). She received notice of acceptance on May 3rd (after 5/1 deadline) and the FA package didn’t come in until almost 2 weeks later. This is documented proof that FA does not follow any cutoff period declining scale based on time.

Look, with that many applicants some people will receive notice in the beginning and some will receive notice toward the end for either acceptances, rejections, waitlist or FA. That’s just the way it is.

I can’t even imagine why someone can’t wait when there is over a month left to make choices after all your schools finally respond. What’s the hurry? What, you want to get the bill already for the remainder you’ll owe for Fall tuition? Tell me that you won’t question why they’re asking for deposits so early. Then comes the big one right after that in October. Before you know it, you’re getting the bills EARLY for the 2nd semester and so on and so on. I KNOW that you will no longer think early is better than later.

My D absolutely - unequivocally loves everything about SU and we visited many reach and safe campuses throughout the Northeast. One of them being not too far away at Corn… where she was completely disappointed to not even bother applying.

Just sit back with some popcorn and enjoy the show. Relax. Chill. It’ll happen and then you’ll know. The Obese lady will eventually sing!

this is really frustrating. I found out from Northeastern and BU easily, and they are almost the same size as Syracuse. Heck, Maryland was more efficient with their decisions and they’re so much bigger than Syracuse!!! I honestly don’t see what is good about waves. It’s not like they are still deciding who is in, who is waitlisted, and who is out. They know. This wave system is BS.

Dilema time–Advice sought.

D got admitted to her first choice, Newhouse. Newhouse/Syracuse was and is her first choice of where to go.

Here’s the rub: she received no merit scholarships and only a small loan for a $57,850 total cost of attendance per year! I read other posts here about a full ride or tens of thousands of dollars in aid/scholarships offered and wonder, what about us? Total bill approximately $240,000 for four years!

She can go to other schools with lesser journalism programs from anywhere from approximately $40,000 to $20,000 less a year, but of course, not in the same league as Newhouse, although one such school is four hours closer and rated above Syracuse by U.S. News but has an “off the radar” journalism program . We are not “wealthy” and have many expenses and another D going to college in four years.

Query: Who else is getting nothing in awards/aid other than a small loan and why is our D getting so little? What are such students/parents planning to do? Second, what advice can you give us as far as choice of school? Thanks.

^^can you post the other schools? It’s all about networking and recruiting for comm jobs; it all depends on the other options but, personally, I wouldn’t pay that much in for an undergrad in a job field that yields, at the most, $40,000 annually coming out…sure there is upside, but, heck it is not a high income business in the long run…

^^^Indiana (about same distance as Syracuse, but J-school going through changes, $5k in scholarship offered, about $40,000 per year), Ohio State (the cheapest, at about $17,000 total per year, but unacredited Journalism school and no broadcast degree offered, but ranked above Syracuse as overall univeristy); Ohio University (cheap but D fear of party school rep and ranked low as overall university, small scholarship offered); Maryland (accepted only beginning winter, 2014); Arizona State University (newest journalism school with latest technology, but located downtown phoenix, far away, but $10K scholarship offered per year, but low ranked school overall), waiting on Northwestern (reach school).

Another thought: if she changes her mind for a different major, or, say, decides on law school, going to Newhouse would be a financial disaster whereas Ohio State would be a great decision.

@toptobottom I understand your point in earnest but I am scheduled for major brain surgery in like 19 days so as you can see patience, although a virtue is also relative. In facing such medical crisis I can only be unpatient.

Accepted in mechanical engineering at all 5 of the other schools to which I applied-including my first and second choices. 'Cuse is my third choice soon to be don’t care because they are taking soo long (unless, of course, they come through with scholarship money).

My daughter is a Junior at Cuse at the School of Education and we received nothing financially, at 54,000 a year. But both my husband and I went to school Cuse and we were very happy with both our educations. So when she said she wanted to attend Cuse, we wanted her to be happy with her choice of school and education. and we havent looked back. She loves it there and we have so far been able to pay for her education. Believe me it is tough, but the best thing as a parent we can give our children is an education.
My son was accepted there last week into the School of Engineering and they gave him 12,000/yr. Which was better than they gave our daughter. He thought wants to go South and to warmer weather. I do know that all of my daughters friends LOVE New House…and have had great internships.
Good Luck with decision…

I’m starting to get very scared - did anyone apply for the dual degree program and was notified yet? I applied for CAS and Newhouse, but I’ve been anxious since Friday. One of my friends received a letter for the School of Visual Arts on Friday. :(

Admission decisions are rolled out in waves (every Friday), so its not a bad sign.
