hey guys,
I applied to SYRACUSE as an EDII student and was accepted to arts and sic (it was my second choice so I do not have to commit). I got my aid sometime around February, it included 14,000 in grants. Which was perfect for my family (it is probably the minimum amount of money we needed to consider syracuse). I just received an email today that they "revised" my aid. I now am not receiving any grants but 5,000 in subsidized and unsubsidized loans. I am very confused and scared. Syracuse is my top school that I got into so far. Does anyone have advice? or can let me know if it happened to them as well?

Call first thing in the morning and ask. Have your paperwork in front of you. Don’t get flustered. Anything that you don’t understand, ask them politely to explain/repeat. If you need time to absorb information (after you think you have asked everything you can at that moment) tell them you will go over your numbers more carefully and call them back. Have a backup person (parent, trusted adult) to bounce it off of once you have the conversation.

I had a similar issue when deciding which college I wanted to go to. My aid amount didn’t change, but when I received my financial aid package from Syracuse it was less than half of what any of the other schools I applied to included for financial aid. Nowhere near my EFC or what I needed to go to Syracuse. We ended up calling and appealing my financial aid because we figured they calculated something wrong or maybe needed more information and they ended up reviewing it, didn’t change it at all, and basically just said they have their own method for calculating aid.

Definitely call them and ask them why your aid changed. The only reason I can see for them changing it is if they got tax information for this year after they sent you your financial aid package and your parents’ income had gone up significantly or something like that.
