Syracuse transfer

I completed my first year of undergrad at a small liberal arts college in Virginia called Lynchburg College. I earned ~3.7 gpa on 32 credits of almost entirely general education courses. I then transferred to a Penn State branch campus. During my application process, I was deciding between finance and economics. I applied for economics and have changed my mind, and have been working on completing my entrance-to-major courses for Smeal this semester. I am currently enrolled in 23 credits and expect to earn between a 3.8 and 3.9 gpa for this semester, and I expect similar results for the next semester.

I have run into a huge issue though. I’ve spoken with many advisors at Smeal and have been informed that I will not be eligible to enter to college, so I would major in economics with a macroeconomics, banking & money module and complete a certificate program in business fundamentals through Smeal. I really want to major in Finance, so I’ve recently started looking into transferring again.

Does it make sense for me to try to transfer to Syracuse to pursue a degree in finance? I want to start my career in investment banking, and I think finance is a better major for me.

Let me know what you think. Thank you for reading

When you say “investment banking,” do you mean Wall Street-level of investment banking, or are you looking to work in a secondary market? (There is a huge difference between Goldman Sachs and a local investment banking firm in Minneapolis, etc.)

Syracuse is a good school, but it’s not a top-tier school in terms of Wall Street placement and I wouldn’t necessarily transfer if the cost is substantially higher.
