Syracuse University 2021(2022) ED Applicants

Ahhh I just got the myslice email and set up my account! I know there’s a VERY long wait until decisions, but fingers crossed regardless

I’m super nervous because my GPA is low, but I applied ED to Whitman, and I have a 3.4 weighted GPA but a 31 on the ACT. My high school is really competitive, so hopefully that will explain the rather low GPA…

Guys I think it’s so funny looking back at my old “match me for colleges” thread. I put like what gpa and act that I thought I would end with. Not even close

@devingrace Did your regional SU admissions rep come to your school? Mine told me that they look at your gpa in the context of your high school. I think you’re fine!

Going off the GPA thing, they’re super holistic with it so they don’t just say “anyone under a ___ GPA is denied” they look for reasoning for everything on the student’s application. So if you have a lower GPA, they’ll look to see if it’s relative to your school, or if your classes are more difficult, or even if there was medical issues that pushed your grades down. Same thing goes for general transcript. Besides, they tend to look at the student as a whole from what I’ve heard, so things you do outside of school beyond classroom, as well as who you are based on your recommendations and your personal essay/supplementaries.
Speaking of, have people done their supplementaries yet? I already submitted my application so I’ve got mine done, but I absolutely hate how you have to keep it to such a low number of words. It was a little difficult to explain my dreams for the future and how Syracuse can do that in a small paragraph.

Does anyone know when they release decisions?

I heard they’re released late December, around Christmas. So we’ll each either have a really good Christmas or a really bad Christmas

When I visited campus they told me we’ll hear in January. That’s… unfortunate.

Syracuse is my dream school… but very doubtful I’ll get in ):
Applying to Whitman with a major in Marketing management
3.3 UW GPA (My school doesn’t show us our weighted)
1160 on new SAT
APs- European History (senior year), English (honors fresh/soph, AP junior/ senior), Statistics( senior year), Italian (senior year), Forensics SUPA AP
EC- Vice president of Student Council, Vice President of DECA, Key Club, Peer Leaders, Youth group at my church, Italian National Honor Society, Captain of Field Hockey,

Three of my cousins are cuse alum and one of them has his own company out of the Syracuse Tech Garden, which is helping me
I interviewed with Admissions and it went great, they were impressed with my leadership and then was directed to their recruitment office at Whitman and did a second interview which also went great. Hopefully I’ll get in, so nervous. Good Luck to everyone!! Hopefully we’ll all be classmates

Who is making admissions decision? Admissions or the school you apply into? My S interviewed with both admissions and the college he’s applying too. The college interview went much better than with admissions. Obviously hoping it’s the college who ultimately decides. My older S applied to SU a couple years ago and didn’t interview with admissions, only with the school he applied to and was accepted. Ultimately decided to go elsewhere. Does anyone know the answer?

Hello!!!
I applied to Newhouse for online/print journalism!!!
GPA: 3.84
NHS Historian
Writer for local paper
News editor at school paper
Lots of volunteering
Attended a Journalism conference at the NYFA in LA
APs: 10th- World History 11th- US History & Lang 12th (currently)- Government, Calculus AB, and Literature
I’ve visited 3 times and interviewed! I’ve always been in love with the school, used to live in Syracuse and in 8th grade I moved to VA. So excited to talk with you all in these anxious waiting days!!!

By reading past threads, it looks like it’s normally the 2nd or 3rd Friday in December

@scout07 what made the college interview better than admissions?

@CptPeel according to my S his admissions interview was a straight question and answer. The college interview was much more intimate a getting to know you type of conversation.

So deadline is coming up, hope everyone’s ready! Just found out my school doesn’t properly give our weighted GPA (weight regular level classes the same as our honors and AP classes as honors classes) and if a college recalculated it’d be about .3 higher. I calculated mine and found it would be a 3.2, so hopefully Syracuse recalculates because a 3.2 is a lot nicer than a 2.7.

I’ve read some of these before. Can’t believe it’s our turn now haha
I’m applying to Arts & Sciences as a Biology major. Early Decision.
GPA: 3.6 unweighted
SATs: 1040 ( :frowning: my weak spot)
SAT IIs: Spanish: 800; Biology: 610
APs: My school only offered AP Spanish. However, I got the principals of two other schools to let me take APs in their schools! AP Calc AB, AP Bio, and AP Spanish.
I’m also taking General Psychology at a local college. ( getting 3 credits for it)
Did original research at the same college and got 1 credit for undergrad research. Will have my name on a published paper.
ECs:
*Varsity Tennis team
*Tutor (Volunteer multiple times)
*President of the Yearbook team
*President/founder of the piano club at my school
*12th-grade representative (Government)
*Chess club
Great essay/recommendations (Got an optional one from the college professor that mentored my research)

I hope I get in! I’m kind of worried about my SAT score. I took it again the 5th, but the scores don’t come out until the 29th :frowning: I emailed them and they said I could rush them but no guarantee on them reviewing them.
Fingers crossed!

My SAT scores are not fantastic either, but we both have taken APs, have outstanding ECs, and a high GPA. There is a lot more to consider than just SAT scores, some people master the material, but are not great test takers like myself. I did take the SAT twice and I improved by more than 100 points the second time I took it so I think any improvement will be impressive to them. Don’t worry!! I hope I get in too, I am so anxious

Hello all!

APs: World History, US History, Euro History, Lang, Literature, Studio

Do I have any chance for scholarship $?

Do any of you know how long after submitting the app until we get a myslice account?
