Hi everyone, I just thought since in just a couple weeks we will be hearing from 'Cuse I would start this thread to help everyone applying ED get through it!
I'm extremely nervous because my grades aren't too great but this school is my dream.
This will also be helpful for those who are applying ED to check the stats of those admitted/denied.
I'm applying first choice to Newhouse even though I'm 99.9% sure I won't make it, second choice VPA - Communications.
I have an interview on Sunday, any tips?
Anyone else applying ED?!

hey i’m also applying to syracuse ED!
my first choice is the dual program newhouse/ischool but im also really nervous about getting in. my gpa is about a 3.5 and my sat score is 1260/1600 (they dont consider writing), TONS of extra curriculars and leadership positions through the school and my church, hundreds of hours of community service including 3 domestic mission trips hopefully those will help since my stats aren’t really up to par with the school. good luck to all others applying!

hi ashley! you have a really good SAT score and your stats are better than mine.
My GPA - 3.4
ACT-24
I’m from a small public HS in buffalo
I’ve been taking advanced classes since 6th grade.
My freshman/sophomore grades are not that great. I went from having an 84 average to a 95 my junior year and my grades should stay around there for my senior year.
I’m taking 2 APs this year - Language and Composition and Statistics
Tons of extra curriculers, part time job since frosh year, i’ve done 3 musicals, 2 plays, all star cheerleading for 12 years, in a competitive choir group, pres of enviromental club, drama club, started cheer team for school, community service club, bowling team, track team, tennis team, mathlete.
My essay is top notch and my recommendations are from teachers who have had me for plenty of years so they should be good. I also wrote an addition to the commonapp stating why my grades were so low.
I’m also a candidate for the “Say Yes” Program guaranteeing almost free tuition to any SUNY/CUNY school as well as full tuition to Syracuse U.
so there’s some more about me :)

They do consider the writing just an FYI. In fact that may be the most important section for Newhouse. Think about it, in terms of television production and journalism what is more important Math or Writing?

on my last tour there during the info session the women kept reiterating that they don’t consider the writing score… but i agree it would make much more sense if they did and im hoping i misheard her considering its much better than my reading score. my writing score is a 620 making my full composite an 1880

My writing score was my worst score on my SAT but I do well in all my writing courses, so I’m kind of glad they don’t. I would have done way better on the ACT but (I hate admitting this because it makes me the most idiotic person to ever exist) but I forgot a calculator and had to do the math section without one… I ended up having like a mental breakdown during the test and it was a mess but I ended up getting a 24 which isn’t too bad. My 30 on reading is what really boosted my score.

Was it just a girl on the tour or an actual admissions person? I went for a personal interview and the interviewer said each is consider. Idk, have to see I guess. Good Luck.

@Curious how did your interview go!? What were some questions asked? I’m so nervous for Sunday.

I thought it went well. The interviewer tailors questions towards you. I play a variety of sports and he asked me a bunch of questions about the sports teams I play on as well as the major league level of each sport. The only major general questions I remember him asking were Why your major? and Why Syracuse over all the other choices out there? As long as you support your answer you should be fine. He was really nice and It really didn’t feel like an “interview”, more of a “get to know you”. Where are you interviewing?

In Buffalo. And that’s reassuring, thank you. I keep going over all this in my head but it’s just because since my grades aren’t as good I have to do well. I know my essay is excellent and so are my letters but a 24 ACT isn’t going to cut it :/. Are you applying ED as well?

Yes im doing ED as well. The interview is a good step. Honestly if you apply to Newhouse without doing one you’re in bad shape. At least you are demonstrating interest in the school. Just stress your love for the school. Have you visited at all? I hate to make this a you me sort of post.I couldnt PM you because i havent posted enough…If you want you can PM your email or facebook name or something and we can talk through there.

@curious I messaged you :)

Also, has anyone filled out the CSS? I just did and now they are asking for the non-custodial parent to fill something out… What if my mom and I don’t know who my father is so now what…

Just got my first quarter grades back and I somehow managed a 95.83 average! think this will help my chances?

I applied ED!!! my GPA is a little low 3.2 act 24 (really good essays though ) and good extracurricular and had an interview. Im applying for Arts and Science so i think thats less competitive than other majors. Have you guys loged on to your my slice thing and does it say your app is complete? my guidance councilor sent my first semester grades and it hasn’t shown up yet did it for you guys? I want to make sure so that nothing is wrong with my app.

Hi poc! My counselor still hasn’t sent in my grades -_- but I have an interview on Sunday so I’m going to bring them a copy of my report card so I hope that helps. We have similar stats so let’s hope we both get in!! Have you had an interview?

Hey, everyone. I applied ED to Syracuse last year and I’m currently a first year architecture student. I just dropped by to let you all know that admissions decisions are sent out in waves (usually on the second and third Friday of December), so you should expect a decision on either Dec 14 or Dec 21 (I received my decision on Friday, Dec 16). I wish you all the best!

@xc thank you! That’s so helpful especially since we are all so anxious

Hey guys! I applied ED to College of Arts and Sciences, and had my interview today, which was really great!
I visited the campus in October during one of the fall receptions and fell in love–I can’t wait until we hear from SU!

yes! I had an interview! they were nice they just asked stuff like what do you want to study and why “cuse” and describe your self in 3 words ect. stuff like that so you should be fine!!! good luck in your interview buffalo!
