*Syracuse University ED 2019*

Hello everyone :-h ,

I created a new discussion page for the Early Decision applicants :).

I will be an ED applicant for Newhouse! :))

I will apply early decision for Newhouse too!

I’m applying ED to the College of Visual and Performing Arts for film. I’m from Michigan. My ACT is 26 (I’m retaking it in September.) My GPA is about a 3.4 unweighted. I did three high schools sports, Key Club, SADD, GSA, WDHS (student film group), and student council. I had a job for over a year. I also attended NHSI at Northwestern University for Film & Video with a scholarship. I’ll have taken 3 AP classes out of the 8 offered at my high school by the time I graduate and a few honors classes.

Still considering weather I should apply ED to Newhouse!

I know its really competitive, and I don’t really meet the stats requirements… so I kinda need that extra push (ED)…

But how much does it really help??
Is it worth it? Such a big commitment!
But it’s DEFF my top choice school… I really wanna go there but ED is kinda scary… you know?

Anyone know acceptance rates at Newhouse for ED and RD?

@meg31776 from what I’ve researched and heard, if you know for sure that newhouse is where you want to go, apply ED. There seems to be a much better chance of getting accepted while applying ED. I am applying ED, as well as going in for an interview! Good luck!!

I don’t think I stack up to the applicant pool but I do love Newhouse and have a good resume … What do you guys think? I really want to go there!

@legallypink‌ it depends on your GPA and other stats, you could start a chances thread

I’m applying ED to Newhouse! My unweighted GPA is 3.9/Weighted 4.2 and my ACT score is 28. I plan on retaking the ACT in September. I have been the Editor-in-Chief of my high school newspaper for 2 years and have a summer internship with an internet taxonomy/search engine marketing firm that works with companies such as Google and Yahoo. I’m also President of my high school French Club and an AP scholar with 7 AP classes. Syracuse is my dream school and I feel like Newhouse is a good fit for me! Best of luck to everyone!

For those of you thinking of applying ED to Newhouse, here’s some data from my S’s experience last year which might be helpful.

He had a 3.4w GPA from a very competitive small public HS in an affluent community.
He had a 2250 SAT.
He had “pretty good ECs”
He had a interview that he believes actually went quite badly.

He was accepted to Newhouse ED.

NOTE: (this is important to know if you’re considering applying ED).
Syracuse does NOT respect the “prior to January 1st” ED-1 notification date. They started to let applicants know around mid-December and keep going until god-knows-when (he got his notification on Jan. 7th). So if your plans include applying ED-II to another school if Syracuse rejects or defers you from ED-1, think again. Basically if you want to apply ED to Syracuse, you’re going to blow both your ED-1 AND ED-2 options at once.

Applying ED to L.C. Smith College of Engineering! I want to do civil engineering  Anyone else?
Non weighted GPA (9-12): 4.00
Weighted GPA (9-12): 4.15
ECs: 4 years of FBLA (president), 2 years of CSF, 1 year of Link Crew (vice president), Senior class Vice President. 1 year of varsity track and field, 4 years of varsity football (w/MVP award). Multiple hours of community service and tutoring as well.
Class rank: 2 of 211
AP Course load: AP US History, AP Eng 11, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Eng 12, AP Calculus, AP Computer Science.
SAT: 1710 composite (needs work :/)
What are you guys looking like? Please share xP

This might be a dumb question, can you apply ED undecided?

I believe you are required to choose a college or a dual program. You can be undecided within that college. Syracuse allows you to make a second and third choice as well. If you are not accepted into your first choice, the ED commitment to attend is waived.
Good luck.

I’m going to send in my app soon. I’m applying ED to Newhouse

Another ED to Newhouse!

I sent in my for Newhouse ED and had an interview up there this past Thursday. I think it went really well… Now the waiting game

applying ED arts/sciences !!

When do people usually hear back for ED. I know its supposed to be before January 1st.

lexeau - I think the first wave is in December. Definitely before Christmas, I’m sure.

There seems to be a lot of ED’s to Newhouse here. I am too! :)

I have a 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale, I’ve taken multiple honors and AP classes, and I have a 1860/2400 on my SAT’s. I’m somewhere in between the top 10-20% in my class of 300 - my school doesn’t give out our exact ranks. I’m involved in a lot of after school clubs: National Honors Society, news editor for my school newspaper, Best Buddies, Peer Mentors, and Key Club. I’m also in a youth group at my church, I was a camp counselor for a summer, I run cross country, and I’m a senior captain on my varsity tennis team.

I’ve been to the campus twice for tours, and I also had an interview with a woman from admissions a few weeks ago. She was very sweet - we got along really well! Hopefully she remembers me!

She talked to me about transferring into Newhouse my freshman year of college if I don’t get in as a high schooler. My second choice school is Arts and Sciences. Students can transfer into Newhouse if they have higher than a 3.5 GPA for their first semester of classes. A lot of students I talked to on the campus tours told me that they took this route and it worked out fine for them.

Good luck everyone! :)

Hey guys! I applied ED a couple days ago to the Arts and Sciences

I have a 3.11 GPA unweighted, but that’s because within my first 3 years of high school I attended 4 different schools, so grades were hard to keep up. I have a 31 ACT, and this year I am taking all but 2 of my classes at Kent State University. So I will be 2 classes short of being a sophomore, after this year. I shadow a doctor for 10 hours a week at the Cleveland Clinic who actually is an alumni of Syracuse and wrote me a recommendation. I also volunteer 12 hours a week at an animal shelter. I have 3 varsity letters in soccer, and 3 in track and field. I am very actively involved in my church, also.

I have been talking to the head track/cross country coach as well. Also, my interview went amazingly, and we talked for 20 minutes over my time slot. Overall, I hope I have a good chance to get in. And good luck everyone!
