PLEASE HELP!!

For the past two weeks I have been very set on attending Syracuse University....I visited once more for the admitted students program and fell in love! They have very strong academics (Newhouse School), fabulous sports, great social life, etc. I also am prepared for the terrible winter weather and other cons that come my way HOWEVER...

My parents recently came to me and announced that they believe I should really reconsider Boston University because at heart I am a "city" girl! They think I may get bored at SU and would do better knowing I have the city around me even though I will spend most of my time at the university...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

are you a city girl because you are from a city? Or because you like cities?

If you liked SU, go there. If you can identify what you’ll miss about not being in a city (operas? traffic? homeless people? museums? crowded supermarkets? the impossibility of having a car?), maybe there is more to think about. But college is all about new experiences.

as much as we hate to admit it, parents have this incredible sixth sense when it comes to their children (at least this is what I have noticed, of course there are always exceptions to this rule). Listen to your parents. Choosing a college is very confusing and their help will be much appreciated in the future.

Syracuse is in a city, just not as big a one as Boston. Boston is a great place to go to college, no question. However, I should note (as a BU Law grad) that BU doesn’t have a great campus–it’s spread out along Commonwealth Avenue. SU’s campus is quite attractive, and reminded me of Brown in some ways (I was Brown undergrad). It’s a cohesive campus on the edge of a small city with a “college street” nearby with restaurants and shops.

ExAdmitCounselor: I’m a city girl because I live in a city plus I have always enjoyed the hustling, bustling city life! I really like SU but I do know I may miss all the events you listed, so I do have alot to think about!

hornetdad: Yes! I definitely agree! I have visited both campus’ and both cities but I see myself at the SU campus more than Boston’s. Although you are a grad student at BU, do you find the city to be distracting or do you spend most of your time on the campus?
