Syracuse vs IU Bloomington?

I was recently waitlisted by Syracuse and accepted to IU, my two top choices. My guidance counselor informed me that I am definitely overqualified for Syracuse, but I was most likely waitlisted because they sensed I wasn't very interested in attending (which is probably true, I didn't write my supplements with much conviction). She said if I really want to get off the waitlist, all I have to do is schedule a visit and send a mid-year report.

I'm torn between the 2 because they are quite similar but very different at the same time.

I was accepted to the Kelley school of business at IU and waitlisted for the Newhouse/Whitman dual program at Syracuse. Both programs are very good and well-respected.

IU is higher in the Forbes ranking and Syracuse is higher in the US News ranking.

IU is cheaper, but the cost of tuition isn't a concern as my family is well off and can comfortably afford either school.

Syracuse is closer (I'm in CT), but this is not a huge factor for me either. It's not too far and not to close to home, but I don't mind going far either.

From what I've seen and who I've interacted with in the college Facebook groups, I think I would definitely fit in more with the kids from Syracuse. I know they're both huge schools with a wide range of people, but in general I feel I relate more to the prospective Syracuse students than the ones at IU.

I've also already been on the Syracuse campus to visit friends. I've just never been there on an official visit so the admissions office doesn't have any record of it. I do like the campus, but the surrounding town makes me a bit uncomfortable and it's not a nice college town (in my personal opinion). Also, I didn't get the overwhelming feeling that I was home, but I did genuinely like the campus and the people I met.

I've never been to Indiana, but I've only heard good things about Bloomington. From my research, it seems like the perfect college town. I'm making an "official" visit to Syracuse this weekend and if I feel like I need to see Indiana, I'll be flying there soon.

I know I'm acting like I've already gotten off the waitlist, but my counselor has assured me that if I express an interest then they will take me off. It wouldn't make sense for Syracuse to not offer me a place as I am over qualified in almost every category. I'm pretty positive that I'll be offered a spot, and even if I'm not I'll be happy to go to Indiana. That might make my life easier, as I won't be forced to make a difficult decision like this one.

Any advice/opinions are welcome, especially if you attend either school or know somebody who does :)
