Syracuse Whitman Newhouse dual program

My DD was admitted into Syracuse’s Whitman with a fair amount of money offered. We just recently learned about dual program between Newhouse and Whitman. Does anybody know if an student accepted into Whitman can apply to Newhouse before committing to Syracuse? SAT 1290, ACT 31-32, GPA 3.6.

DD is a sophomore in the Whitman Newhouse dual program. I believe Syracuse will fill up the s0 many slots for each program. If there is an opening in the dual program you would have a shot. I would suggest having your daughter call Admissions and let them know your daughter wasn’t fully aware of the option and spoke with youthat About committing to Syracuse if accepted to the dual.
Please remember that the dual requires 151 credits. It is very doable in 4 years with AP, IB, and/or CLEP credits. My daughter is thrilled with SU and the dual program.
Good luck to you and your daughter.

As a current Newhouse/Whitman dual I can 100% tell you the dual is not worth it. You need to wait until you get to campus to apply to Newhouse, the admission decision won’t come until next summer- but if possible transfer to Newhouse and drop Whitman like a hot potato. All my Whitman professors are god awful- most of them have either been out of the field for decades or PhD students who do not know how to teach. Right now I’m in a finance course that quizzes us on the material before we learn it in class- and these quizzes are for credit. Don’t understand the material in the textbook? can’t ask in class cause the professors aren’t paying attention to the class. I’ve learnt more about how business works in my Newhouse classes than I ever will in Whitman- which is sad because Whitman is a business school. Point is transfer to Newhouse and don’t do the dual it’s not worth it.

As a junior dual my daughter would agree that the Newhouse professors are great! She is very strong quantitatively and would provide another point of view on her Whitman experience which to date has been outstanding. She recently sat next to a Fortune 500 CEO and his wife for lunch with several of her Whitman professors. She has had dinner with her classmates and Whitman professors and has found that studying in both schools has been a real boon when interviewing for internships. She has several friends that are doing well as dual majors.
On the other hand, she knows several folks that dropped Whitman as freshmen and only stayed with Newhouse. This was relatively easy to do and was a good decision for those students.
If a student decides later on that he or she wants only one school, it won’t be hard to make the change.
