Systems Engineering M.S. with as B.S. in Operations Management

Hey guys,

So currently I am in my senior year of undergrad majoring in operations management. I am interning for a defense contractor in their configuration management department (Product Lifecycle Management). Being in this position has really sparked my interest in systems engineering. Because operations management has somewhat of a systems engineering background, I was thinking that it would be beneficial to work towards my masters in systems engineering, or industrial and systems engineering. My long term goals are to move up to management one day. Is this a good idea, or even a viable option?

It depends on what you want to do. But systems engineering at defense companies are mostly paper pusher job.

Would it help if I wanted to be in a management position one day? I’d like to earn my masters in something other than a MBA

Would like to see an answer to this as well.

I think it’d be a great idea. Something a little different than Ops Management and really popular field right now (and probably in the future too!).
