T&F- is high jump an afterthought?

do college track and field coaches take high jumpers as seriously as they would, for example, triple jumpers?

if someone only did the high jump and had several awards (i.e. all-state, all-midwest, etc.)for that event, would they be taken seriously in D1 or at an Ivy League for recruitment?

Thank you all very much!

Yes, T & F coaches search for great high jumpers. However it is helpful if you search the individual college’s rosters to see if their high jumpers are graduating seniors, so coaches my be needing to fill that slot.

Check in this forum by searching for " recruiting standards", there is a list of specifications for each event. Also check the heights that the current HJers are making at the Ivy you are interested in, to compare it with your personal best. (For example, go to yale.edu, then athletics, then mens or womens track & field, then roster, read the stats for the jumpers, and note the year level they are.

Be sure to fill out the online surveys for potential recruits-if your academics and track stats impress the coaches, they will contact you. (You can also email your resume directly to the coaches.)

thank you so much for that great advice

also, on the website w/ the standards, what are tiers???

I believe the tiers are rankings of desirability of recruits, a way for the coaches to rank their recruits?

Good luck!

I don’t understand why triple jumpers would be any more desirable than high jumpers…

ok thanks guys!
hebrewhammer- i like your screename btw, and idk, it just seems like the track and field sites that I’ve checked out have put little to no emphasis on the high jump, but I guess that it’s because they don’t have a strong high jump team
