So I would like to TA for a teacher in my high school but while registering, I saw a warning which stated “some scholarship societies or colleges consider this a part time enrollment.” Would this actually affect me in any way, especially since I want to graduate college debt free? (The TA position would go on my transcript as a pass or fail. P or F.)
How many periods would TAing take up? What other courses are you taking?
If you are taking Math, Science, English, Social Studies and have gotten to the 4th level of a foreign Language AND you are TAing, it should be fine.
But ask yourself why are you TAing? Want to help teach? Want to help teacher? Like the subject? Avoiding taking “fun” classes? Avoiding taking more classes?
It would take up one out of five periods. I am taking all my core classes plus more. The only thing available is gym classes and other non requirements. The problem is I will get a P on my transcript out of that and I was wondering if an A on a easy class looks better. I am a junior and have a 3.7 GPA
Being a TA will not help nor hurt you as long as you have the other classes needed. Colleges will understand why it is considered pass/fail However there is absolutely no reason to restrict yourself to core subjects. There are classes such as business or technology which might be both fun and useful and may have honors options.
Only honors option we have is English, which I take. I go to a small school with about 400 kids
so if you take a non honors/AP class your guidance counselor can mention that - don’t get so hung up on rigor that you won’t allow yourself to take a class that sounds fun - sometimes it is the fun classes that help you stand out in admissions over just core classes
Also keep in mind that HS is one of the few times you can take a “fun” course for free and have dedicated time for it.
So if you think the TA is fun, do it. If you think photography is fun, do that instead.
