Hello, I am currently an 11th grader in Amman ,Jordan and I do Taekwondo professionally. I Have participated in many international and national tournaments and I am willing to continue to do so in university however, I cant find the right university for my sport. Most universities that I have taken a look at are focused on the main sports like volleyball and basketball but not really taekwondo, I have looked at UCLA and Stanford however they don’t seem that competitive. Where can I find the right university for my level which consists of training everyday and frequently participating in G1 and G2 competitions.
The school list at the National Collegiate Taekwondo Association is a place to start.
But TKD is typically a club sport in the US, competing in competitions with other universities. I’m not aware of any university-sponsored varsity teams.
The discussion at http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/college-life/1744694-collegiate-competitive-taekwondo-teams.html is probably still accurate.
My daughter’s school (she’s a 4th dan) is taught by an 8x US Open champion and trains/takes students around the county/continent for competitions. You likely will need to find an organization like that to continue elite competition.
Thanks for your response, I will defiantly look at clubs and try to find the one thats most suitable for me.
