I leave tomorrow morning for my spring break college extravaganza. Sorry to disappoint JM but heres my itinerary:

Sunday-Tuesday: West Point - having the privilege of doing an overnight visit, I also will probably be attending the martial arts team practice on Monday and seeing the parade on Tuesday.

Wednesday: Coast Guard Academy - day visit, they wouldnt give me an overnight cause theyre taking FOREVER make a decision on me. They told me they would notify me of my admissions status in the second week of April, which is the week I'm visiting.

Thursday-Saturday: University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign

:) Kidding Taffy! I hope you have a great visit and learn lots. Tell us all about it when you get back. If USMMA can't have you then atleast I am hoping for CGA! They are the next best thing. LOL Good good luck & I hope your next post tells us where you got an appointment to!! We've been waiting such a loooong time to hear.

Although the odds are highly remote, you have the opportunity to meet both of my daughters in the same week. I don't think anyone else on cc could do so.

Taffy!! So its pretty cool huh? Good, good, good! I got the feeling that you were grinning when you wrote that ^. Enjoy! Take it all in then go enjoy Wednesday at CGA & let us all know what you're thinking about everything.

I believe I stayed at C-1, if thats what you're asking. I had a great time. The cadets were awesome and I had tons of fun. The classes were awesome, and the food wasn't bad at all. I helped out with duties, "welcome to west point, thanks for the laundry." People were from all over, and had their suggestions "I've never heard of UC-Davis, but go there" and "we say that, but we're still here." My host was a prior service infantryman and prepster, and apparently admissions told him last semester he wasn't allowed to have candidate guests anymore because he scared them away, haha! He was awesome and so was everybody else I met. I talked with an officer about my file, but it wasn't much help for figuring out how to get into west point, "Your SAT scores are great... your GPA is great... your extracurriculars are great..." so I think I'll have to get Mark Houston to be a little more critical about my application. I will not be disappointed if I go to UC Davis or U Illinois Urbana Champaign for a year, because thats what I just left west point with the intention of doing. I didn't realize it as much at west point but when I got here to UIUC, west point is lacking in the ladies department. Oh, and I learned a new term, "Cadet-Hot."

im at UIUC and theres a storm warning/watch right now. yesterday it was like 80 degrees and sunny, with all the students lounging on the lawn, and today is a windy gloomy day. here i come, california.

taffy,
My best friend's daughter is currently a sophomore at UC Davis. Her uncle just retired as supe at USCGA, but she prefers sorority parties over the service academy life.

I don't know if many people know that UC Davis turns out most of the top winemakers in this country--it's a big ag school isn't it? Just saw a story on television about Anheuser-Busch(sp?) setting up a 25 million-dollar beer brewing facility at UC Davis. What's your major? "Brewing Beer..."

it does have top notch winemaking and brewing(no major in brewing at the undergrad level i dont think) but biology is their largest major. My major at UC Davis is Optical Engineering, which will change if i stay past 1 year. just because theyre the best ag school doesnt mean they suck at everything else.

Taffy, we lived in Roseville until 5 years ago, just a hop-skip-jump from Davis. In CA, Davis is very, very highly regarded. One of my former shipmates went to law school on the Navy's dime there.

I also have a close friend who is a UC Davis law school grad. I wasn't criticizing UC Davis, I'm just jealous that I don't teach wine-making/wine-tasting!

Ditto on the comments regarding UC Davis. We live in Sacramento, which is just a "hop" from Davis. It's not an easy school to get into - it's getting nearly as competitive as UC San Diego. And yes, while they are known mainly for Ag, they have very good other academic programs. The town is fun and student friendly too. You really can't go wrong there.

Taffy! Those are really really good photos! They should use a few for their brochures. Really good. You have a talent with a camera! Thanks for sharing.
