Taffy will be attending

the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign.
I have applications opened for usna, usafa, and usma for the class of 2011, but I have a feeling that after a year at uiuc i will not want to leave. I'm leaning towards doing air force rotc because it seems like i can go army from there if i want or stay air force. also, if i want to go to coast guard ocs or do the blue 21 program, i think that the air force would be more likely to release me from obligations jr/sr year than the army would. I am in the professional pilot program at uiuc so i will probably have a major in finance and a minor in aviation. go illini!!

You'll want to leave college after a year, trust me. I'll see you at USAFA.

best of luck Taffy and congratualtions :) .... sounds like a great opportunity!

I talked with the Colonel for the AFROTC at UIUC and a cadet(?). It seemed like a good program. Best of luck.

I whole-heartedly agree with TacNuke.

Spend a year in civi college, and those appointments will look real inviting.

I'll see you at USNA!

Funny. University of Illinois colors might be an omen of what lies ahead for Taffy. ;)
I send my congrats. I still thought you'd be a great KP Mid.... I guess I gotta wait a whole nuther year now to see what happens. You better keep us posted! You're better than watching some high drama on tv any day! LOL Pack your parka boy!

Best wishes - you still have a lot of options and a long journey ahead. Urbana will be quite a change from Cal-i-fornia - buy a parka when you get there and see what the heartland is all about. You will probably love it, learn to fly and make some true blue friends. Do whatever you do 110 percent - as you have here. Report back - and raise the consciousness of some of the elistists here that UI is a great place.

whats a parka?

haha kidding, kinda.

thanks everybody, i'm looking forward to the fall and enjoying the final months here!

taffy,

You'll love UIUC. As you well know my other daughter is a freshman there right now. My nephew is in grad school there and another nephew will be starting as a freshman in the fall. The academics are great. The College of Business has brilliant students. The ROTC programs are strong and students participating in those programs are very happy with them. Illini sports are great. Entertainment of all kinds is available. The midwest is a great place to live. Chipotle is a block off campus. (Highland Falls desperately needs one.) Moonstruck has incredible chocolate and it's right across the street from the Union. Chicago, a most incredible city, is only 2.5 hours away.

You really don't know how you'll feel after a semester there - other than cold. :D What dorm did you choose? And is the file at WP still open for class of 2010?

Best of luck to you!

MOT, you'll have to be to Taffy what Navy 2010 has been for those parents of mids at Kings Point.... Giving us lists of restaurants, ice cream parlors, and other fun things to do on Long Island...and the best chocolate at Lazars

Funny how we always end up talking about chocloate :)

I made a wonderful friend who I met on the U of I board. He's from the Pacific Northwest and was researching the school. Our daughters have become friends and whenever we are in Champaign we will take each other's kids out to eat.

taffy, you can join us. Just pm me when you get settled. I just love to embarass my daughter by introducing her to yet more of my friends from the Internet.

PM, why wouldn't we always end up talking about chocolate?

MOT, i took your advice and went to moonstruck... the hot chocolate had chili powder in it so it was spicey hot chocalate... ew, ill be sure to ask for mine without chili powder in it next time, otherwise it was good :)

I applied for housing in 3 different places in the Sixpack. i filed my housing app like february 4th, when half the apps for housing are in. apparently like half of incoming freshmen live in FAR/PAR, so im hoping i dont get screwed into that. I think selection for living-learning communities (2 of the 3 i applied to) might be based off lottery so that helps my chances for those.

When did it become Urbana-Champagne? Back in the day it was always referred to as Champagne-Urbana...

i think that they should either choose urbana or champaign and move the city boundaries over, yeish.

hey great idea - lets build St Louis in 2 states

and lets build kansas city not all in kansas

and in illinois dont they call counties parishes?

I'm from St. Louis, and Taffy, you have relized how messed up the midwest really is......have fun, its going to be a learning experience. U of I is a hell of alot of fun though, trust me!

taffy,

Moonstruck has several versions of hot chocolate. My favorite happens to be the one with the hot pepper. mmmmm.

FAR/PAR are the farthest dorms from anything on campus. I hear the 6 pack is mostly freshman and heavy partying. Allen Hall is great. Greek life is strong so you may be looking at the frats at some point. Some of the houses are like Animal House and some are beautiful.

We're just waiting for Chipotle to be included in a meal plan.

i could eat potbelly's every day... the noodle company was awesome, too.

The original Potbelly is in Lincoln Park and is walking distance from my apt of the yuppie days. We used to go there all the time. I'm so glad they started to show up in the suburbs and on some college campuses. I think there is one in Ann Arbor, too. The milk shakes are unbelievable. The sandwiches are unbelievable.

Start your leadership training. Get them on the meal plan. :D That would be so marvelous. 28,000 undergrads and all those grad students would love ya'.

Noodle company (right next door to Chipotle) is brand new in Champaign this year. It's verrrry popular. And yummy.

Hey, Jamzmom, how about a trip to the Midwest? We have some good food in this part of the country, too.

"and in illinois dont they call counties parishes?"
uh...no.

Check out La Bamba's for "burritos as big as your head." It's true!...well, pretty darn close.

And El Famous Burrito for the football-sized burritos.

And Jamzmom would have loved the Long Grove Chocolate Fest this weekend. Just imagine the cutest little midwestern town with every kind of chocolate imaginable.

In Louisiana the counties are called parishes.
