Exie, Don’t call others ■■■■■■ just because they don’t agree with you or they found inconsistencies in your posts. Stop blaming others for the criticisms you are getting from others for posting some outdated info while claiming to be a college admissions adcom. Most of your posts are cut and paste from previous posts and have very little added value. All the BS applicants should be happy that you won’t be their interviewer because we very well know your views on what the applicants should be like and that’s scary. You also claimed that being URM is not a Hook while enjoying it’s benefits. If I list all the inconsitencies in your posts here, that would be a long list. How can any one trust your posts when you yourself admit that you withheld some information. RBG2 has kids in BS and is posting her real experiences (both joys and frustrations) and there a lot of people that find her posts useful. What’s wrong with people wanting to know what they are getting in return for their investment. May be you have loads of money that you don’t mind throwing away, but a lot of parents care about their investment. Don’t just try to recruit people on CC to your side just by saying that they know you. Nobody knows people on CC in real life unless they met in real life. For all I know, I will never know you really went to Exeter or MIT unless you post your diplomas here or something. And BTW you never answered which HADES school your d was admitted to and why you chose Taft over that school. That will be very useful info for those of us who have to make similar decisions.

Once and for all, it is not HADES anymore (too limiting), the better name is GLADCHEMMS!

Pulsar (from his/her writing) is most definitely not a child. The writing is too good – by grammar, usage, etc – content? – that is debatable.

Leanid and Exie you seem to be in good company together or are you both one and the same as you seem to be posting back to back backing each other? Also, age doesn’t matter, it’s what’s in your post that matters. A teenager can be wise beyond years and an older person may need help with how to write. Know what I mean… :D

What high school student can consistently post throughout the morning on weekdays?

sorry, Exie–there’s no “outing” me
I’m a parent of a child at an elite boarding school, unlike you.

My daughter made one post asking to see a “winning” essay.

the only ■■■■■ I know is you.

I remember a C.S. Lewis book read many years ago. I think it was Perelandra. Suggests a solution to the ■■■■■ problem…

Ransom, Ransom…

Nevermind.

Pulsar…, Pulsar…

“I’m a parent of a child at an elite boarding school, unlike you.”

This one is too much! For those who have come on the scene only lately, Taft has a long history of being among the “elite”. Refer to E. Digby Baltzell’s essay (?) on the “Elite Sixteen”, listing the boarding schools that have traditionally been at the forefront, both socially and academically.

pulsar - No, I am not one and the same as Exie, but thanks for the compliment.

Leanid, History won’t tell you anything about what the present is. If history didn’t change, we would still be subjects of the Queen.

Exeter123, This seems to be a new low for you. Heartbreaking to see that you found a new profession calling ransom on people or is it continuation of your current profession? :D

Sue22, You seem to have forgotten what all happens in high school.

Taft IS an ELITE boarding school! I would compare it to a Duke/Vandy if it were a collage. Do you not consider them elite collages? RBGG you really need to get a life! You/Pulsar obviously have WAY to much time on your hands if you are on here all day long!!!

This must be why reality TV has taken off so well, I mean you can’t make this stuff up. I apologize to the OP for participating in the hijacking of this thread. But really, as tempting as it is, time for all to give it a rest. I’m sure there’ll be plenty more to come here on CC.

“History won’t tell you anything about what the present is.”

True, but it will tell you a good deal about the past, and I am willing to wager a bet that a school like Taft hasn’t strayed too far from its heritage. Visit it some time, the place is imbued with high quality.

What are you worreid about, pulsar, that it doesn’t have enough academic superstars among its students? In case you hadn’t noticed, academics has its place – a high place, yes – but somehow, not the be all end all that some believe.

There is more to life than mere ability to emulate computers – and we all know the world isn’t run by those types.

Leanid, Don’t get us wrong. Taft is a wonderful school. If you follow the original discussion, Exie said it is on par with HADES schools and she gave up a HADES school spot for Taft for her d. This assertion is not supported by facts of admittance rates, average SSAT, SAT scores, college placement etc.

Careful, Pulsar. If you’re not kowtowing to some, their claws come out and they’re liable to try an’ hurt you.

Oh yes, (perpetuate the delusion), Taft is on the same plane as A/E. Of course it is.

Meanwhile it seems there are some whose identity is wrapped up in being seen only as the bard of all knowledge.

If you cannot stop the feeding frenzy, there is another way to solve the problem.

Just click on the name of a poster whose posts you find trollish. Go to “User Lists” and click that. You will find “Add to Ignore List.” Click that on for that poster, and you will never have to see another post by that user, unless the poster changes his/her name.

Please, all of you, please stop. I don’t post frequently but read through threads often as I am very interested in making sure that possible applicants and their families are able to come to CC and find honest information and pleasant discourse. I love threads that discuss the challenges and negative of boarding school and I also love the threads that praise the experience or provide information on a specific school. This site can be a wonderful resource but currently it seems that every thread is being taken over by petty arguments between a few people. I don’t care who’s right/who’s wrong, please end it so that others may actually use the site fruitfully. I’m sure this post will elicit all sorts of angry responses and I’m OK with that, just please stop being so inconsiderate in your posts, it doesn’t help anyone.

Believe me, pulsar, I am not “getting you wrong”. I know exactly where you are coming from. To you, academics reign supreme, and whatever comes in second is way down on your list — ironclad proof that since you have never had the boarding school experience you cannot relate to what Exie has been saying.

Thanks Burb Parent, we know that. It’s kind of become an unfair sport responding to some of the more colorful people here. Like fish in a barrel.

And Ops - yep. Reality TV. Would cringe if they started the Real Parents of BS on Bravo TV. You can’t make this stuff up.

pulsar - by the way, since you value academic perfection, try looking at my user name more closely, you’ll see that it begins with a small ‘l’ not a capitalized one.

agree with hola3

Pulsar, FYI, character in the novel was called Ransom. You should pick up a book sometime.

Pulsar…, Pulsar…
