Taft decisions already out according to friend....? Or was he just pulling my leg. :(

Hi all,

One of my friends that isn’t really a friend told me that he got accepted to Taft. I did not apply to Taft, so I was unsure how to respond to this. Was he lying? He also told me that “there was no interview required.” However, he told me that he wasn’t going to go and that he was going to our local public high school. That’s when I started really doubting him…

If he’s telling the truth, I should’ve applied to Taft. I would love to receive a decision now…

Was he bluffing? According to stargirl’s spreadsheet, the normal decision comes on M10…

He’s pulling your leg, unless of course he’s got some special connection at the school that allows him to get an “early decision” that no-one else can get. Here’s what we received earlier this week:

… All admissions decisions will become available to students on March 10th through your Taft Admission Portal. Financial Aid awards will be sent to students and parents by email at the same time…

LIES

He sounds jealous.

It would be great if we hear from school now. I want to apply to Taft too. I heard Concord Academy says they waive interview because they are full. And Middlesex say skype interview is not required for admission. Not sure if it’s true?

It’s not true. Taft releases their decisions like everyone else.

In my neck of the woods, Taft was the HOT school last year- much more so than the usual suspects. I live in an area with an abundance of private feeder schools and kids who attend JBS and BS.

Look at my nephew’s results on last year’s decision thread. He was accepted at many fine schools but waitlisted at Taft. My sister is still a little ticked (LOL) - but she’ll be the first to tell you that her son is exactly where he’s meant to be.

Funny how that works…

I think he is confused with William Howard Taft School – Local Chicago Public School

Yeah… No way.

As a member of the Ten Schools Admission Organization (TSAO), Taft is held to a common notification date. This is last year’s letter on the subject:

Is it an unwritten policy for schools to let legacies know beforehand? Granted, it was a few years ago, but I know someone whose father was called the day before to say she’d be rejected.

@stargirl3 IDK, but that story sounds apocryphal at best. (I believe that’s what you were told; I just question the original claim). Could a very small percentage of applicants get a wink/nod something similar in advance of M10? Anything’s possible, but I doubt it’s common practice.

@stargirl3. Yes you are right. At some schools parents of legacy kids are given the heads-up of a rejection. Someone who I know with had this happen to his son.

FYI- Some schools outside the Ten Schools have been known to call accepted students M9… ( I hope I didn’t ruin the surprise for anyone )

Legacy applicants usually do get a heads-up for a waitlist or rejection but I believe that practice varies from school to school. It can also depend on whether the alum has had a reasonable amount of contact with the school over the years or showed up (at the school ) like a long lost relative with a less than viable candidate.

I knew it.

I am very jealous! (or was) @london203 :stuck_out_tongue:

If you’re also a recruit, then you probably have a good idea ahead of time.

I can tell you for sure that neither Hotchkiss nor Deerfield give a word on the sly to legacy children applicants ahead of time. I do believe, though, that it’s fairly common for the admissions office to tell a current student who has a sibling applying ahead of time what the decision is so that the student doesn’t get blindsided on M10 (especially a concern if the news isn’t good).

@soxmom Do you know if Deerfield or Hotchkiss ever did? Like, 10 years ago?
