I'm a sophomore girl at The Taft School in CT, and I would love to answer any questions you guys may have about the school, admissions process, academics, EC's, sports or just boarding school life in general.

Heres some background info about me, and feel free to ask away!

junorrr: Welcome! You sound like you’re off to a great start I can’t exactly say whether or not you could come just because Admissions looks at so many different things, but from my view it seems like if you dig a little deeper into your EC’s, keep up your grades and are strong in your interview/application you could definitely have a chance!

Mexstudent2013: Christmas Club is actually the 2nd biggest club on campus right now and we pretty much have bonfires with Christmas music every week starting in November, and then around December they organize a game of Secret Santa and have some more holiday events like a christmas party and caroling. It’s really fun with all the people in it :)

For community service we have 1 day in the mid fall where we get to choose projects to do for the day instead of classes, and sometimes athletic teams will do a project together. Outside of that there is the community service board which organizes a lot of different things like charity walks, tutoring at the local schools, mentoring kids in Waterbury, fundraisers and so much more! On top of that you can also do comm. service as your “ex” (instead of a sport) which is offered every season.

Hotchkiss is our biggest rival with sports so every year in early November we have “Hotchkiss Day” where we have a huge pep rally and bonfire the night before with a day full of sports games against them on Saturday. It’s really fun and people get really into it and go all out in our Taft red and dress up during spirit week, the week leading up to it. Pretty much what we say is “Kill the Kiss”, but it’s really nothing more than some friendly yet serious competition :)

I have another little doubt, How are the first days/weeks at Taft? And, Do you get to know people quickly?, Im usually a very talkative and sociable person, but living in a different country and environment looks both as exciting and scaring which could make me kind of shy :(

Taftie101 sums it up perfectly! Christmas club is pretty funny, I’ll definitely have to join. Hotchkiss Day is the greatest day ever by the way, because the rivalry is so huge and it really becomes a fun event :)
