looking into applying to taft soon - wondering what they 're looking for in person and ssat scores. also do people enjoy it? generally what is taft like? thanks
I know of one accepted applicant who chose to go elsewhere. She had almost straight A’s throughout middle school and SSAT was 88 or 89, I believe. Not an impact athlete or anything like that, but a well-rounded and very friendly person. I remember when she was deciding which accept to go with. Her Cons for Taft were: Freshman having to eat in their own dining area-apart from the other grades; Boys’ dorms being connected to the main bldg. but girls having to walk to it; and that there was something in the gym Freshman were not allowed to use that she would have wanted to (a climbing wall maybe?). Hopefully, others on here will be able to share the more positive things about Taft, which must surely exist. Good luck with your applications!
The best way to learn about any boarding school is to research it on boarding school review and go for a tour with interview. Boarding school review as well as the Taft website will give you the average SSAT and grade point average for admission. Taft is highly competitive as you can see from last years results on the forum. My daughter goes to Taft and loves the school. She got accepted into 10 schools and chose Taft. There is a very close community with an extremely caring and supportive staff. The freshman and sophomores do have a different dining area from the upper classman. The boys dorm is connected to the main academic building but you do not walk through it to get to class, theatre, or dining room. The kids at Taft generally have great school spirit, are very smart, athletic and happy. You should definitely visit and see if you feel it is right for you. Best of luck.
