I’m currently a freshman in highschool but I’m searching for a more socially-intellectually challenging environment. I’ve heard great things about Taft from peers and I’m considering applying.
If anyone can provide insight on the application process for 10th graders and the overall sense of community at Taft it would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Welcome, and good for you for wanting more!
Unless there’s something very specific to you and/or Taft I would approach this more broadly. What are you lacking in your current high school experience? What would you most want in a boarding school environment? And why? Overlay all that with your grades, ECs, need for FA, etc. to get a sense for what’s realistic for you, and apply to a bunch of schools that feel like a good fit for you (conventional wisdom around here is 5-10, maybe 12, but definitely including at least some with higher admissions % so that you’ll have options come March 10).
Taft may fit the above criteria or it may not. If it does, it’s highly unlikely that Taft is the only school that could give you what you’re looking for. Spend time browsing the forums here - TONS of great advice about finding a good fit, the application process, etc. And prowl the various school websites as well as sites like Niche (not to become a slave to the rankings, but for the high level info they provide). Good luck!
Hi there. My friend’s son recently graduated from Taft and went on to a very decent college. He loved the sports and atmosphere at the school and would recommend it in a heartbeat. I wonder what your feedback is like from peers - do they like the academics, social life, athletics or anything else? I would love to hear them as well!
In CT, there are also Hotchkiss, Loomis Chaffee, Choate and Westminster which you can look into. Good luck and let us know what you find out!
Within the past year or so, I read some negative things about Taft, but I do not have any recent first-hand knowledge. OP, you may want to do a search on this website.
@milliih116 please PM me, I can absolutely help!
Hello P, what kind of negative things have you heard about Taft? I have 2 family friends who are looking to apply, so your feedback would be highly appreciated!
