I plan to apply in fall 09 for transfer in fall 2010. However, when I apply, I will only have 29 units, and I will only have attended for 1 full semester (not including the fall semester when I apply.) The TAG for UCSD and UCSD state this:

To be eligible:
• Has been enrolled at one or more CCCs for at least 2 regular terms (excludes summer sessions)
• Last college before UCSD admission is a CCC (excludes summer sessions)
• Has completed at least 30 semester UC transferable units at a CCC

Does this mean I WON'T qualify for the TAG? I can't tell if they mean I should have attended for 2 terms (and have 30 units) before I finally transfer, or before I actually apply in November.

Let me explain my situation a bit.
I attended UCD in the fall of 2008, withdrew before the end of the quarter, and started attending a CCC in the following spring, of 2009. I am taking 18 units right now, and in the summer I will be taking 11.

So by the time the application period starts, I will have completed 29 units. But by the end of the fall semester I will have 47.

Should I just sign up for another summer class to make sure?

(Yes, I will be attending the spring of 2010. So by the time I transfer in fall 2010 I will have completed 3 consecutive semesters at my CCC. :))

you need to have 30 units completed by the time you apply. so yes, you need 1 more. but that seems like a very heavy summer load so be careful!

you can use spring as one of the regular semesters. You need the 30 units by the end of spring before you transfer. You don’t need to sign up for another summer class.

Can anyone else weigh in? I’m hearing conflicting answers so now I’m even more confused.

I wouldn’t mind adding on another summer class. I don’t work, nor do I really have a social life… The problem is finding a class that’s open. Registration for summer started quite a while ago. Garrgggggh. I hope you’re right JetForce, cuz otherwise I’m screwed! :(((

you don’t need it. i did a tag with UCSD this year and i was accepted and i used spring as my 2nd semester.

Ah, alright, thanks. :)

I don’t know if this is similar, but at the end of this semester, I will have 28 units completed, and I wasn’t planning on having any more done until what would be the end of fall semester (09). Therefor, according to the rules above, I wouldn’t be able to fill out and sign a TAG and have it be official. I talked to administration at my community college (SD City College) and they overruled it, allowing me to sign it with 28 units after this semester. You should try to butter up a counselor or something! Good luck!

to fill out a TAG, you need to have 30 transferable units. So, if by the end of summer you don’t have 30 units then you can’t fill out a TAG for fall next year. However, you’ll be able to do a winter TAG. Once you hit 30 transferable units, you are considered to be in sophmore standing. I know this for a fact. This is exactly why I didn’t (more like couldn’t) TAG. It didn’t matter anyways, I got accepted to UCD, UCSD,UCSB,UCI and am waiting on UCLA and UCB.

hey, maybe if you have enough units you can even apply in the summer for winter 2010 admissions with tag for ucsd!

I was allowed a UCI tag with 29 units

I got AP credits and had excessively over 30 units. Good luck! [:

totakeke- although the general rule is that you have to have 30 units, you should still try to fill one out. I’m sure someone at your transfer center on campus can help you out with that. Explain how close are you to 30 units at the end of the semester.

I think that this is one of the few UC transfer rules that has a lot of exceptions. As far as I know, you only need to complete 30 units by the Fall if you’re actually signing a TAG form, such as you would need to do for UCD. All the other schools–as far as I’m aware–will allow you to simply check the box on your transfer app. if you’re close. I had 27 units and 2 counselors told me my UCSD TAG was legit. And like others have told you, if you run into problems just explain your situation to your transfer counselor, and for the most part they’ll pull some strings.

Wait, AP credits can be used to meet those 30 units? I have 5.3 AP units aside from the 29 units I’ll have by the end of the summer. I guess I’ll be fine then.

Thanks everyone for your answers!!!

^
Yes they can! [: At my CCC tho, they had to wait a semester before posting them to my transcript, but that shouldn’t matter, they’ll still note it at the TAG form signing with the AP credit.
