<p>I am a bio science major (specifically genetics/human bio) hoping to get a TAG to Davis.
Currently I have 3.3, and after spring grades are submitted, I will have anywhere from a 3.19-3.22 depending on one class that could go either way between and B and A (second semester calculus).
I am enrolled in chemistry this summer (the last half of general chem), and I am very confident I will get the A because I just recently quit both my jobs in order to focus more on school (after trying to juggle way too much which resulted in a really stressful spring semester :( UGH).
This will hopefully bump my GPA up to a 3.25-3.31 (again, depending on my spring grades).
My question is, which school should I apply for a TAG to? UC Davis (my absolute top choice) or UC Santa Cruz (my safety school)?
I was going to wait until the end of summer semester (mid July) to make this decision, but I was hoping for some feedback also. Since it's possible that I may not have the minimum GPA for Davis by the end of summer semester, my choice will obviously be Santa Cruz. But say I manage to keep my GPA slightly above minimum for Davis, should I apply for the TAG or keep it safe and stick with Santa Cruz?
I will have all pre-reqs done (for both schools/majors) by Spring '13 (finishing the bio sequence and o-chem sequence by spring) and will definitely be applying through the general application to both schools when the time comes.
I've asked a counselor and didn't really get valuable input. I know bio is a significantly impacted major and that definitely will be factored into my decision, but I just don't know if I should go for gold or play it safe.
Please, any 2 cents is greatly appreciated!
Thank you thank you :)</p>
<p>Don’t be a *****, go big (Davis) or go home.</p>
<p>^ you’re awesome slowdrive
just realized this might also be a problem:
my first bio class (general bio) I completed with an A
my second bio class, molecular/cellular bio, I completed with a C (I didn’t show up for one test which was beyond my control, and unfortunately wasn’t able to make it up and luckily managed to bring my overall F up to a C)
Since I’m taking the next two bio classes in the bio sequence in Fall '12 and Spring '13 which is AFTER the TAG application is due, will this affect my chances?
I read that if you’ve only completed one course of any of the sequences with anything lower than a B you’re automatically rejected.
Sorry about the additional paranoid questions AHH this is too much</p>
<p>“will this affect my chances?”</p>
<p>If you meet all of the requirements for TAG (and maintain them), you cannot be rejected. As long as you show completion for courses by Spring, and meet all other TAG requirements you are fine. </p>
<p>assist.org:
“…a group GPA of 2.50 or higher is required…”
“A minimum of one course comparable to a UC Davis biological sciences course must be completed with a B grade or higher for admission.”</p>
<p>I think this only means that you need to get a B or higher in one Biology class, not all of them. As long as you have a minimum Bio and pre-req GPA of 2.5 and will have TAG, you are fine.</p>
<p>I need some help/advise. So I admitted to Davis with a TAG and as a Political Science major. My PGA is 3.3. But I just learned that I will be getting a D in my Spanish class. I needed to take Spanish because I did not have 2 years in Hight School. What will happen? Will Davis revoke my admission? Or do you think they will admit me and let me take a language later? I have dyslexia so foreign languages are extremely hard for me. Is there any possibility they would waive this requirement given my condition?</p>

<p>Not passing any UC-transferable course for any reason puts you at risk for being rescinded. It’s not a 100% guarantee that you will be, but a pretty high chance. Call and tell/ask them about it, only they will make the decision obviously.</p>
