TAG - did they start rejecting TAGs already?

I received email from my counselor telling me that I have too many units for TAG. But I checked my application online and it said that I have too many units for even apply for TAG.

It's not clear to me, I mean that if they reject my TAG (and told my counselor, who just saw my TAG, and didn't do anything with it, and I wonder how they knew she was my counselor), wouldn't it be on my file? Please do tell me that she doesn't know what she's doing. Please tell me she looked at my application again and regarded my "almost surely" non-transferrable units from abroad as transferrable.

I think for TAG, they only count the CCC courses transferable, I don’t think they allow courses that were taken from abroad or even out-of-state to be transferable.
TAG is an agreement between UCs and JCs in California.

If you have only attended a JC’s (no state schools or anything), you’re fine for TAG and your counselor is weetarded… And no, they don’t start rejecting/accepting people (with or without TAG’s) until March / April…

i got an email saying that we will find out if each individual UC campus has accepted or denied our TAGs by October.
“TAG decisions will be released beginning early October and will differ for each UC campus.”
but i also do know that it is possible to be denied from a TAG with too many units from either another UC/CSU, private, or abroad if it puts you at a senior…but then i think you would be denied from the campuses themselves during the regular application process if that were the case.

can anyone confirm or deny please?

@Ktran :
AFAIK, you only need to have 30 transferrable units. they didn’t say anything about having more than x units would not make me eligible for TAG, ewll unless they check my application and see that I have more than x units to be eligible for transfer, which i doubt.

@lmendoza
I attended a foreign institute where MOST if not ALL classes are not transferrable. How did i know they’re not transferrable? They’re not similar (In US, general chem is 2 semesters, in my former college it was only 1 semester and then the 2nd semester is organic. in america organic chem also takes another 2 semesters!)

@ redoplease:
I never heard of UC’s accepting or denying TAG’s in October. That probably just means that they’ll either validate it and place that TAG on your UC app in November or deny it and put you in the old fashion application process. I’m not sure though…

@izychr:
Hmm… I would apply for TAG if you can and see what happens. More times than not, CC counselors don’t know what they’re doing. I would talk to a UC representative and ask him/her how to go ahead with the TAG.

I suppose what was not stated and brought up is if this person had already attended another university or state school here in the US.

IMHO: TAG’s are overrated and only useful to keep some students on track. A student who has completed all their requirements on their own and then applies has a equal chance.

I said in my first post that I have units from abroad.

@lmendoza
Yeah, that’s what I did. TAGging is free anyway. Imma check on a UC rep too.

For TAG, they inform you around november if your TAG got accepted.

"I haven’t heard from you regarding the attached email (see below). I was hoping to meet with you to discuss the next steps. Since you have too many units for the TAG process, you do not qualify for the TAG. You must withdraw your TAG applications from the system for each UC that you applied too: Davis, Santa Barbara, & Santa Cruz. I suggest coming in and speaking to the transfer counselor about the open on-line application process. You may still be able to apply to a UC—just not with the TAG. I hope this helps. Email me with additional questions. Also, I have appt set up, call the office and explain that you need to see me regarding your TAG. They will place you on my schedule. Okay….

"

My counsellor’s email to me. Why does she want me to WITHDRAW my TAG application, when I haven’t heard from the UCs first?! Enlightenment please.

@iZychr your counselor sound like she is not a very good counselor. What kind of counselor FORCE students to WITHDRAW their TAG application. It doesn’t hurt to apply for TAG, worse scenario is the school will tell you that you are not eligible for TAG.

THATS THE POINT. TAG is free anyway, and I thought that Taggin would be a good opportunity to know whether I do have excess units or not.

It is true that TAG application decisions are posted by mid-November at the latest. However, they are conditional. If you meet the conditions posted on that TAG “approval” or “acceptance” then they will also accept your with the general applications in March-April.

The “conditions” are usually: Maintaining a 3.0 and completing all of the classes you marked as “planned” on your UC TAG application.

^

What if we couldn’t get into the classes because the class was full, and I couldn’t get in even with petition?

From what I know (what UCSD admissions officer said to me) was that as long as I list what classes I DO end of taking and not taking on the november app, it wouldn’t hurt the TAG. The only way that it’ll hurt you is:

If you needed to take 15 units to fulfill the 60 unit required, but end of taking 10 units,
so you are short of the 60 units required.

I mean, that’s what I got out of my visit to the UCSD admissions officer.

^ is UCSD one of the schools that’s going to get back to us by November 15th about the TAG decisions?
