TAG for UCSB

Hi!
I'm planning to transfer at UCSB as a chemical engineering major. On their TAG, specifically for College of Engineering, they have a 3.2 GPA requirement in all UC transferable coursework by fall 2011. It's also stated that "Applicants must earn an overall minimum of 3.2 in all major preparatory coursework by the end of fall 2011."

<a href="http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/pdf/UCSB%20Fall%202012-13%20TAG.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/pdf/UCSB%20Fall%202012-13%20TAG.pdf</a></p>

I currently have a 3.28 overall GPA. However, I calculated my major prep coursework GPA (Calc 1,2,3, Diff. E., Linear Alg., GChem and Ochem, Physics 1,2,3) and I only have a 3.05 GPA in all these courses. Does this mean that if I apply for TAG, it won't be approved? Also, what are my chances at UCSB if I go on and apply without a TAG?

I'm also applying at UCR, Cal Poly Pomona and UCSD. What are my chances at these schools?

bump… anyone?

bumppppppppppp

well it says you need a 3.2 by the end of fall 2011 in all MAJOR PREPARATORY COURSEWORK. then you in fact calculated that MAJOR PREPARATORY COURSEWORK that you did and it brings your GPA BELOW the threshold, so therefore it will probably be denied.

seems pretty straight forward? probably def no for UCSD, possibly for Cal Poly as a regular applicant, and I’d also say SLIGHT chance on UCSB as a regular applicant, but im not too sure about that one.

recap:

1.UCR
2.Cal Poly
3.UCSB
4.UCSD

but thats just my opinion. you might need to spend another semester or so raising it and applying to state schools.

&

why do you want to do chemical engineering anyways? possibly riverside as a regular applicant, but

Cal Poly accepted like 12% of transfers this year…

No, it’s at the end of fall 2011, you can still work your @ss off in fall to get it above 3.2. I think SB and SD are the only two schools that counted GPA at the end of fall.

@RunMCR: Is that their overall acceptance rate? is it lower for engineering majors? Where did you get this?

@UCkittychen: Thanks for the feedback. I chose chemical engineering at first because I did so well on AP Calc and AP Chem in high school. Now, I’ve looked up some info about what chemical engineers do and I’m really interested in it.

@snipehunter: I only have C++ and Speech left to do since I’ve completed all my prerequisites (IGETC included). The best that I could do with my GPA is a 3.3.

They had the stats when they sent me my decision for Cal Poly. I think it was 10% for computer science major.

from Wikipedia:
“U.S. News describes the university’s admission process as “more selective”, yielding an overall acceptance rate of 29% in fall 2010 (freshman acceptance rate: 32%, transfer acceptance rate: 13%).”
