So basically I’m just really unlucky and SB removed the Psych major completely for upcoming transfers and changed it to Psychological & Brain Sciences. I was planning on applying for the TAG to UCSB but the psych comparative major requires different pre-req’s which I have not completed due to suuucchh short notice.
so LONG STORY SHORT: if I am missing some pre-req’s in the major, am I eligible to submit a TAG and get accepted or is it a waste of time?
I would hate the word brain in my major.
It looks like you can still submit a TAG but I’m not 100% sure. Part of the problem is not all pages have been updated to reflect the disappearance of the BA major, and the information they do provide is a bit confusing. They write
See also the info related to transfers on the page https://www.psych.ucsb.edu/undergrad/psychological-brain-sciences-bs-0
So what I think you can do is apply as a pre-psych major using TAG, then once admitted you need to finish any missing pre-major classes and also meet all the other xfer rules in the 2nd link I gave above.
They have an email link you can use for more info at https://www.psych.ucsb.edu/undergrad and if you are within driving distance of UCSB you can probably set up an appt to meet in person; I doubt the advisors are busy during the summer.
One thing to consider is whether you really want this major. If you’re more interested in a BA in psych then other UC schools offer it, or if you’re more interested in attending UCSB then be sure you understand all the classes you need since the move to a BS requires taking some solid science and math classes. Download the checklist from https://www.psych.ucsb.edu/sites/www.psych.ucsb.edu/files/docs/B%29_PBS_BS_Checklist.pdf and look up each of the premajor classes in https://my.sa.ucsb.edu/catalog/Current/UndergraduateDegreeList.aspx by clicking on the department offering the class and then courses. These are not puff classes! And keep in mind for the pre-major classes offered in the psych dept they use a strong curve according to https://www.psych.ucsb.edu/undergrad/psychological-brain-sciences-bs – 60-65% of the class must receive a grade of C or lower, and there is an overall 2.7 gpa requirement in the pre-major courses you take (only counting the ones taken at UCSB, not from your CC).
Here is the 2018 TAG. Psych is not mentioned as having been removed.

If you are still wary, call UCSB TAG for verification: (805) 893-2881
What the OP means is that a BA in Psych is no longer offered at UCSB.
@mikemac oh, sorry. Misunderstood.
the great thing about TAG is the lack of ambiguity. Take these classes, get these grades and comply with the other requirements - and you are in. The downside is, the lack of flexibility they have. If you are missing one class, they will deny your TAG. You can still apply as a regular transfer admit.
sorry for the late reply but thank you both so much for the clarity!
UPDATE for anyone reading this thread! I got into UCSB for Psychological and Brain Sciences
