The filing period for the TAG fall 2013 application is Sep 1-30, but my fall 2012 semester at my Community College ends later, and i won't get the minimum GPA until the end of the semester. Do i file the GPA under the minimum then update it after fall semester ends? will my application get thrown away because it doesn't meet the minimum GPA during time of filing?

San Diego and Santa Barbara are the only two UCs that allow your GPA after the fall quarter/semester is over to be used in determining whether or not you qualify for TAG. All the other UCs require that your GPA be above the threshold BEFORE you file for TAG (before fall quarter/semester starts), so yes your application will get “thrown away” since it doesn’t meet the minimum requirements.

See page 3 (by 2011 it means 2012, and when it says 2012 it means 2013).

I’m applying to UCSB, and it says
The following GPA requirements apply for the College of Letters and Science TAG. Applicants must:
• Earn an overall minimum 3.20 GPA in all UC transferable course work by the end of fall 2011;
• Earn a minimum 2.0 GPA in all UC transferable course work in fall 2011 term;
• Maintain a minimum overall 3.20 GPA through the end of spring 2012;
• Earn a minimum 2.0 GPA in all UC transferable course work in spring 2012 term.

but i have to send in the application before my fall 2012 term is over.

You will be fine, as long as your GPA is above 3.2 after the fall semester. This is also assuming they don’t change anything from the 2011 to 2012 TAG agreement.

" Earn an overall minimum 3.20 GPA in all UC transferable course work by the end of fall 2011; "

will i get a chance to change the grade after i submit the TAG application? do i send it to someone in UCSB?

Yes, you will have a chance to submit your fall/winter grades early next year through their website.

Yes, you will submit the TAU (transfer academic update) after Fall to show your Fall grades to all campuses. UCSB will then use the cumulative GPA to determine your eligibility for TAG. Obviously, if you meet it (and all other requirements), you will be approved and admitted.

and if i don’t, do i get another chance next year?

Yes, you can TAG again assuming the program is still in place the following years (there is no indication that it won’t be). But even if you aren’t approved for TAG, you will be evaluated as a normal applicant for admission, so there’s still a good chance that you will get in even if your TAG is not approved. Obviously, it won’t be guaranteed that you will be accepted though like with TAG.

Also keep in mind that UCSB (and the others UCs as well) have other requirements for TAG besides the 3.2 minimum GPA. Many of those requirements must be completed BEFORE Fall (not the GPA one obviously). Make sure you look up last year’s TAG agreement(s) if the new one isn’t online already. You must meet ALL requirements to be approved for TAG. There are more than might think. I know that for UCSB you need at least 30 units and your Math and English courses for IGETC (not all of IGETC, just the Math and English for it) done BEFORE Fall. There are more as well.

Also Remember that the UC application (November) is separate from the TAG application (September) and that you must select the same school and major for TAG on both applications or your TAG will be voided.

The reason I’m asking if i could apply again is because of this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1306972-those-who-applied-ucsb-econ-accounting.html

the post states

UCSB TAG, thankfully, requires you to meet their TAG GPA minimum requirement by the END of Fall 2012. So, you will have until the end of Fall 2012 to meet the minimum 3.2 GPA.

If i don’t hit the minimum GPA, and I get rejected for Econ&Accounting major, am i banned for applying again next year?

^I Sent you a private message

I don’t think this is true, at least from what UCSB says.

@andrewexd
Sorry, you’re right.

@upper
It think what that post meant was that that you can’t switch into E&A at UCSB from a different major. In other words you have to be admitted into it directly. You can apply again from CC if you don’t get admitted to that specific major.

The second part of the post means that you are admitted into the pre-major. In order to get into the full major you must complete an Economics class at UCSB and get a B or better (a B- won’t work), and if you do not, you will not be admitted to the major and will have to major in something else.

Keep in mind if you decide to leave UCSB becuase you didn’t get into the major and go back to a CC, there will be unit cap on you and you will not be able to TAG back to the campus or apply again to the major.

but if i get lower than a B(B- or lower) will I be able to try again? Is there a way to get past that class and go straight into the major?

Nope, that’s the thing, you have to get a B or higher in that class when you take it. If you don’t, you will be “banned” from the major like lawlking said. This is also why you should apply to more schools than just UCSB to keep your options open if you change your mind. Davis has a similar program. Irvine has minors in Business/Accounting but admission to those is not guaranteed as there are a fixed number of spaces. You will also need like a 3.2-3.4 UCI GPA to get into them.

man, I wanted to go to UCSB because i was stuck between accounting and economic, and the big 4 recruits from there also, so UCSB is my perfect fit.
How is that class graded? on a curve? only limited amount of student gets over B? does anybody have info on that class?

If you’re really worried about it you could go to Davis for Managerial Economics instead (you should apply to it no matter what though just to have the option). It’s a the same thing (Economics and Accounting). But obviously Davis is not UCSB, so you’ll just have to decide. If not, you’ll just have pull out a B or higher in that class at UCSB.

how would that work anyway? dont they send out tag decisions on november? if your fall semester ends in december then wouldn’t it be too late? they’d have made their decision before you can update your gpa.
