I have a friend who told me she got rejected from TAG because she was taking Statistics WHILE applying for it, not the year or summer before. Does this usually happen? I thought that if you did a TAG agreement, you just had to be done with Math/English courses by the Fall semester (meaning by the end of fall semester). If not, then I have a problem.

I wanted to transfer in 2 years. By the time this semester is over, I'll have 25 units. I'll have around 60 units by the end of Fall 2012, which makes me eligible for UC admission right? However, I am only in Elementary Algebra right now and won't be able to do Stats until next fall. :( So I figured, maybe, taking Stats during the summer along with my second semester of FL so I can TAG somewhere. Is this a good idea if you're incredibly bad at math? I'm basically almost failing Elementary algebra here...its depressing but since I took it pass/no pass, I'm not dying over it. Should I just suck it up and take 3 years to transfer? I really have no idea what to do.

I think you need a math done the summer before you apply for TAG. So if your friend didn’t take any math class before this semester, their TAG wouldn’t be accepted.

I was in a very similar situation, and I got screwed.

Your math and English MUST be finished by the fall prior to the fall in which you’re applying. So if you wanted to TAG for this upcoming fall, you have to be finishing up math this semester. And yes, they will deny you if you don’t get it done. Summer is not good enough, you’ll need all your math/English courses done this fall. Everything else can be done in the spring/summer.

From the UCSD TAG site:

“Both of the UC English courses and the UC math course must be completed by the end of Fall 2010, prior to Fall 2011 admission.”

wait what?! if her friend was applying for TAG WHILE TAKING STATS, and TAG is only available during the FALL OF THE YEAR BEFORE ADMISSION, that means her friend was taking math at the last possible quarter it was okay – aka fall.
she probably got rejected on accident, schools like UCSD are known for doing that.
if im misunderstanding and she took it winter or spring, then yes, her friend was ****ed from the get go…

Okay, I’m just a freshman so I don’t plan on applying next year.
I’m just very very VERY confused now.

My friend is taking Stats RIGHT NOW, Fall 2010. She applied for SB, SD, and SC TAG this semester. Got rejected from all of them because she wasn’t done with math…but she would have been done at the end of fall 2010, because she was in the middle of taking it. She’s a psychology major (I think?).

So what went on? I just need to get up to Stats…so will I get rejected from TAG (not the UCs) for taking it while I’m applying? I read SB and SC’s TAG and they said it was by the /end/ of Fall 2010. But why did she get rejected if that were true?

@bunnybee: I have no idea why she got rejected. Sounds like a mistake on the part of whoever evaluated her app. UCSD is notorious for doing this; they’ve rejected a handful of people on this board for the last couple years who were eligible and then admitted them after they argued their point.

Yes, you need to have your math done by the fall prior to the fall you plan on attending.

Just remember, the semester you apply for your UC needs to be the semester you finish all your math/English requirements.

the only way she could’ve got rejected is if she tried to tag UCI. UCI TAG requires your math and english done the SUMMER before you apply in Sept.

Okie dokie… thanks for the verification. So, more than likely, its okay to take statistics next year for me? Thats when I’m going to be applying. I was scared that I’d have to take Stats this summer with my Foreign Language.

Yeah that is extremely odd. I could understand one school making a mistake but all three? Maybe a mistake from your cc counselor, who I believe has a significant role in your TAG process…
Is that good new for people that haven’t received a TAG decision yet? They made it past one inspection maybe? Most likely wishful thinking haha

The weird thing is, is that the counselor was the one that APPROVED and looked over her TAG in the first place. Then they said “oops, we forgot, you NEED math done this year sorry!”. My school isn’t exactly great in the counselor department. ¬¬

Do you think I should call the schools I want to go to to verify?
