TAG + Senior Standing

So, does that whole senior standing apply only to people who have taken a large number (30+) of units at a four-year? If I have 60ish units right now, and stay another year to polish off some pre-reqs and end up with 90 units (ALL from CCC, except for 4 units from UC Berkeley Extension) - will I be considered a senior for transfer purposes? Or do UCs only accept up to 70 units of transfer credit from CCCs?

Thanks in advance, CCers!

No, you can’t go higher than junior status with units from a community college. In fact, they cap you off at a certain # of units when you’re admitted into a UC (I forget what it is, but it’s the # of units that makes you a junior student).

This isn’t a bad thing necessarily - for one, you can still switch majors after a quarter  That, and you’ll more than likely have to take the extra # of units to graduate anyway.

I think it’s 70 semester units/105 quarter units

^Yes, the cap for CCC units is 70 (60 is the minimum for junior standing, 90 for senior standing).

However, it is possible at UCSB, UCSC, and UCSD to be otherwise eligible for TAG, but have it denied for reaching senior standing. You’d need to have completed 21 or more units at a four-year university, and 70 or more at a CCC.

If you reach 90 through a combination of CCC and four-year units, with only 70 CCC units counting, you’re ineligible for both TAG and admission. However, if you stay under 90, you’re still eligible for both TAG and admission.

Riverside and Irvine do not allow students with any four-year units to TAG, and Davis has students with more than 86 units reviewed by a dean prior to admission (e.g., they don’t want perennial students taking up space).

@nick_scheu But if I don’t have any units completed at a four-year, I should be okay - right? The only units completed outside of a CCC were 4 units via Extension, which I think don’t count as a four-year.

Crap-tasm. Now I’m worried! I have more prereqs to finish! I’m poor! I was considering hold off another year. But I’d be over 90 units if I did. What the deuce should I do?

You’ll be fine. Only 70 CCC units can transfer, right? 70+4=74. Far from 90.

Hi guys sorry for asking question in an old thread but I was googling and I cam across this thread and I think this thread has the answer that I am looking for but I am still kinda confused about senior standing that my counselor has told me about. Basically I went to a CSU after high school and have completed a year there. However, I wanted to transfer so I dropped out and went to a local CC. From that CSU that I have attended, I have completed 36 quarter units, which is equivalent to 24 semester units. I am currently enrolled and finishing up my first year at a CC( but this is my second year of college) and by the end of it I will have completed 28 semester units. So basically, will this affect me in this case? I am planning to send out my application in fall 2013, so basically if I get admitted I will be attending in 2014. So I still have another year, from now, until I finish all of my units. My question is this, from combing the total of units that I will finished at my CC(including my future ones), I will have total of 45 semester units, and adding to the 24 units from my CSU, I will have a total of 69. However, I only stop at 69 because I was told that I need to keep my units under 70, but I was reading this thread and I found out that I can have total of 70 units of CCC. This is the part that I am getting confused. So basically as long I dont exceed total of 90 units combing both CSU and CC I will be fine? and I need to have more units at CC than at CSU right? and can I take more class at CC going pass just 45 units? I want to clarify these because the counselors at my CC are useless and they don’t know anything. Please if you guys are kind enough, please help me on this. Much thanks to you guys in advance :)
