Are TAG/TAP and honors classes a good thing for schools like cal and UCLA?

Anyone know of any good EC's to do for these schools?

Thanks

TAP is acknowledged by ucla and will grant you priority consideration for admission if you finish it but not for cal...as for ECs, it's always best to do something related to your major but they don't really weigh ECs as much on transfer students as they do on incoming freshmen unless it's a highly impacted major. just keep up a good gpa and finish all your prereqs and you should be fine.

I would have to disagree with the above post a little. Cal does not have the TAP program that UCLA does but completing an honors program is a factor in your admission to Cal. Also From pretty much all the representatives I have spoken to from Cal have said that ECs are more important than students tend to realize. Although GPA and major prep/IGETC are the most important factors in the admissions process.

anyone know how competitive pol sci is at cal or UCLA?

Also if u get accepted at cal for pol sci, do they allow you to change majors, if u have completed the preq's at cc?

UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2008

That is the majors from transfers that were admitted. From what I can see Political science at UCLA was impacted/ very competitive.

Sorry for asking a question, but it is sort of related... Does anyone know if TAP is worth it for engineers? Or should I just not take any honors classes.

poli sci has always been competitive at ucla but the good part is that they still accept a wide number of applicants every year so it's not exactly that hard to get into if you have a good gpa.

GoMiamiDolphins - TAP let's you choose an alternate major, increasing your chances of getting into UCLA; unless of course, your major is impacted.

is a 3.65 gpa good enough for poly sci at UCLA with TAP and EC's??

Yes

10 char

ok thanks. is employment considered into your application? for example, im 18 living with parents and applying to transfer but have to work 25-30 hrs a week for out of state tuition and rent

Yeah, there's definitely a spot to list your work experience. They'll also take into consideration how well you've balance both work and school together.

Make sure you talk about all those hours you have to work. I had very little to put down on my application in the way of ECs (besides AGS), but I did have a lot of work experience so I made sure to state that my job was the reason I could not participate in many EC activities.

What if you exaggerate how many hrs u put in :P
