TAG to UC with no prerequisites completed.

I am attending a CCC, have a 3.15 transferable GPA, 32 transferable units, and will finish IGETC after this semester. I'm planning on TAGing to UCI/UCD/UCSD for Fall 2011 as a Chemistry/Pharmaceutical major and was wondering if I would be accepted even if I don't have any of the prerequisites completed except for statistics. Would it be better to pick a different major?

^Not true. UCSD’s policy for many majors, including Economics, is that you can transfer with whatever prereqs you want, including none, but it may delay your graduation. For chemistry or any science-intensive major, of course they will require some degree of math and science as well as other prep courses. But for majors like Film / Media Studies, Comm, and Psych you really don’t need much if anything to TAG.

To answer your question, I think you should definitely choose another major. The major you stated is incredibly rigorous and science/math heavy, and thus substantial prerequisites will be required at most colleges to show that you are ready for the task.

However, many majors do not required specific lower-division coursework aside from the TAG requirements. If you have IGETC done then you meet the 1 UC(Math), 2 UC(English) done by fall requirement for the contract. Further than that, the UCs differ on what else they require. UCSB requires specific coursework for certain majors, which is stated in their TAG. UCSD, it appears, does not, as it is not listed as a requirement in their TAG agreement.

For plenty of the UCs, IGETC and the unit requirements alone get you into many majors. Did you catch anything in those 32 units that make you want to major in anything else?

I think your best chances are away from science/math/engineering unless you want to stay another year.

You can try TAGing with UCD and UCSD, but UCI wants pre-reqs to be completed.

Is your goal to get into UC as fast as you can?
